The USSR of that TL must have suffered a bad winter in its north, thus the expansion to thr south.

If it was, it drained half of the Pacific Ocean.

Not really inaccurate, that's the actual state borders of the Great Lakes states. They just added the water sections that are usually pretty rare on US maps.

Reminds me of a map somewhere that showed how a fourth of Louisiana is underwater, but people show it as land to keep the state's shape as it is.
