yea money is what drive empires. One last weird idea is that if Spain can't subjugate all of France maybe they are able to take back a province like Burgundy. idk any thoughts?

well yes I know. Once he converted and the issues of his religions was settled. He is the obvious choice. I'm just saying if he didn't convert and the war continues then theres the possibility of Spain full on intervening.

Spain did intervene OTL, from 1589 to 1598. Henri IV's conversion did not end the wars, it just made him acceptable to most of the people. Five more years passed before Spain finally agreed to peace and withdrew its forces.
