This involves a little bit of hand waving but not much. Assume if you will that when Christianity first comes to Japan the Missionaries decide to take a proselytizing and syncretic approach to thier mission similar to the Buddhists. After the missionaries start being replaced by home grown pastors the approach is solidified. You could say Francis Xavier or possibly some earlier missionary writes some letters or some such thing that influences others.
Taking this into account what do you think it would like? What are some ways you can see Christianity being molded and vice versa? Would this approach be more successful in so much as at least not being banned from the islands? (That one depends on a shimabara rebellion or not)
