The world of Harry Turtledove's "Ready for the Fatherland"

This is a thread meant to discuss the world of Harry Turtledove's short story "Ready for the Fatherland." In the world of this story, Adolf Hitler was killed by Erich von Manstein on February 19, 1943, leading to Manstein becoming leader of Germany, making a separate peace with the USSR and WWII becoming a stalemate between the Western Allies and Germany. Afterwards, the Western Allies and the USSR defeat Japan and a three-way Cold War ensues between the democratic world led by the United States of America, the fascist world led by the German Reich and the communist world led by the Soviet Union.

To start things off, here is a map of the world in 1979, the year when the short story takes place. This map was based on some other maps people made of the world of the same short story. Much of the map is speculation.

I barely remember that story, weren't some British commandos sent to an Eastern European country to meet with some partisans?

Who is King George IV or is suppose to be George VI ? Also why no US President opening the games in the US in 1952 and 1964 ? Also did the Soviets and their allies participate in the 1952 games as they couldnt have been very happy with either location.
