Sino-Soviet War

It seems like a sino-soviet war would turn into a bigger, badder Iran-Iraq war. Chem weaponry use, semi-stationary fighting once the soviets drive into china, etc. The only difference is both forces would be a hell of a lot more competent, just with the same basic doctrines. One human-wave attacker, one more modern and mechanized force. Maybe the sino-soviet war and the iran-iraq war would lead military analyists to predict trench warfare is making a comeback....

just a tangental thought.

I also think chemical weapons would just make too much sense NOT to use on the part of the soviets. Fighting the PLA is like fighting a tide (were they still using the "peoples war" doctrine at this point?) and gas could be used to guard flanks or as a sort of screen to retreat behind.
