DBWI: More African Lion Economies

As you all know, there were a few African countries which, during the second half of the 20th century, started a process of rapid industrialization and economic development. This development was so impressive that economists came to refer to these countries as the "African Lions", in reference to the already existing phenomenom of the "Asian Tigers".

The Lions started their development later than the Tigers, and they also had a much steeper path to climb, so we've only really started to see the effects of their growth during this last decade. But already we can see their influence in the world. From their flourishing technological industries to their pervasive pop culture, everywhere we can see signs that the African Lions are on the rise.

Besides the countries which became African Lions IOTL, are there any others which you think might have been a part of this group? If yes, which ones, and how would their rapid development affect the rest of the world?

Pretty much anyone that surrounds South Africa was pretty much guaranteed to get somewhere, particularly once Pretoria began dismantling apartheid in the late 60s and spent the 1970s and 1980s benefiting enormously from suddenly unleashing the capabilities of three quarters of its population. Once they had access to real money for development, well, we all know the story don't we? The Rand Lords are called that for a reason....

Screw over Somalia so it doesn't become East Africa's success story as well? Since independence, Somalia has been one of the most stable countries in Africa with a strong democratic system.
