In Germany some members of the Social Democrat Party were questioning Germany's involvement in the war. The German Government had been waging a limited war. There had been fighting in the Ukraine and in the Black Sea but they had not stuck at the Russian Homeland. >Germany had the capacity to strike targets in Russia but it had held back doing so but if the Russians expanded the war by attacking the Baltic States or Poland or Finland then

The Chancellor addressed the Nation and explained what Germany had done. He made it clear that if the Russians withdrew from the Ukraine and pulled their forces back from the border then thing might begin to improve But if Russia carried out further acts of aggression including expanding the war then Germany and its allies would take additional steps including hitting targets inside the Russian Homeland.

German reinforcements arrived in the Ukraine bringing the German forces to 8 divisions and the Austrians increased their forces to 3 Divisions plus 2 brigades. The Hungarians had increased to 4 divisions plus 2 Brigades. The Czechs had 3 Divisions plus 2 brigades. The Hungarians had deployed to the south having reinforced a Ukrainian Corp. The Germans had driven the Russians away from the Kiev region and a mixed German-Austrian force had pushed a Russian force away from an encircled Ukraine army force that had been cut off.

The Alliance forces had pushed the Russians back toward the Russian border. The Germans were attempting to carry out intelligence missions so that they could figure out what actions the Russians might be planning on carrying out. The German Army was not planning on any additional units being deployed to the Ukraine only replacements for personal lost.

Britain and France notified Russia that they would impose economic sanctions on Russia unless they withdrew from the Ukraine. The United States called in the Russian Ambassador and also notified him that the US was joining Britain and France in sanctions.

Russian Forces in thee Ukraine had pulled back closer to the Russian border. There seemed to be a break in Russian air operations. Russian forces near the Baltic states had pulled back and were digging in. The Finish Military reported a similar situation.Six additional Russian divisions had taken up positions just 3 miles east of the border with Poland

The Russian Army had withdrawn to within seven mile of the Russian border in the Eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian Army forces were continuing to exert pressure on the Russians.
The Government of the Ukraine was seeking additional artillery,tanks and vehicles from the west. The Czech army had received 65 Leopard I A4 tanks and had turned over to the Ukraine 65 of their Upgraded panthers with a Czech turret with a 100mm gun and an improved Czech Diesel engine with more horsepower.

The fighting in the Eastern Ukraine had not stopped as the Ukraine continued to apply pressure to encourage the Russians to leave . The Hungarian IVth Mechanized Corp was supporting the Ukraine forces in the south, The Austrian Corp plus a German Division was protecting the Ukraine Capital While the German Army probed forward in support of the Ukraine forces.

The Russians withdrew their forces from the Ukraine back into Russia. The Ukraine continued to move toward the border . The Germans sent engineering units to assit in assuring that any land mines were removed.

The Czech Army gave the Ukraine the remaining quantity of its modified panthers which gave them 197 more tanks. The Czechs were buying and producing under license the Leopard I tank. Germany was holding talks with the Czech, Austrian,Hungarian governments regarding post war deployments in the Ukraine.

The Commanding General of the German Army recommended against pulling back any forces from the Baltic states and the Ukraine despite some calls from Social Democrat members of Parliament to do so. The Chancellor would like to do something but the Kaiser was siding with the military. He said it would be sending the wrong signal to Russia

Russian Forces had finally withdrawn totally from the Ukraine and a cease fire had gone into effect. German forces had puled back so they were 50 miles from the Russian border. The Ukraine had received all of the remaining Czech tanks that were based on an improved Panther design. Hungary had reduced its forces to 1 Division and the Austrians had reduced their force to a reinforced Panzer Grenadier Division which was serving with the Germans forces in the Ukraine.

The allies and the Russians met in Switzerland to talk over a settlement regarding the Ukraine. The Ukraine wanted assurances that there would be no further attack on the Ukraine and the Germans, Austrian,Poles Hungarians and Czechs also wanted an agreement that Russia recognized the borders of the Ukraine. The Germans, Poles and the Baltic Stated also wanted a treaty acknowledging the independence of the Baltic States by Russia

Russia signed a treaty recognizing the independence of the Baltic States and of the Ukraine. The treaty set the borders of the Baltic states and Finland but there were two issues with regard to the Ukraine borders that needed to be settled by a special commission. Germany, Ukraine,Poland, Romania,Austria,Czechoslovakia and Russia were to hammer out the issues and then it would be signed

The Treaty was signed . Hungary recalled it troops to bases back in the country. Czechoslovakia ordered its troops home. Germany and Austria agreed to retain a joint force in the Ukraine. The Germans would keep three divisions there plus the Austrian Panzer Grenadier Division.. After 6 months the Germans and the Austrians would withdraw elements of another division and would then form a joint Austro-German Division out of what remained.

The Cossacks for the most part were still in Russia. Some had defectected to the Ukraine but the post war had seen the re-emergence of the Czar who had called upon the Cossacks to rally to the throne.

The he Chancellor ordered a German division withdrawn from the Ukraine thus reducing the force to 1 2/3 German and 1/3 Austrian. The Social Democrats had been making an issue out of the cost of retaining German forces in the Ukraine. The Chancellor had pressed the Kaiser to allow him to reduce the German footprint in the Ukraine. Czechoslovakia was manufacturing the Leopard I CK tank with some Czech improvements
