AH challenge: Name the countries/colonies

Map from first quarter of 19th century, right after the end of the French revolutionary wars.

Initial POD is a surviving Kalmar Union (surprise  :D ).

A secondary POD important to this map is no treaty of Tordesillas.

Be nice ;) :)

Hmmf, the first thing I thought when I saw the map was 'I bet that dead straight east/west border in Brazil is what remains of an alt-Treaty of Tordesillas that gives more to Portugal

Was the map that bad

No, it's beautiful - but just difficult to have a guess at.

OK lets have a go:
White- Venezuela, Pink(ish)- British colony of Southern Patagonia, South Chile, Falklands plus some isles in the Carib. Dark red - Northern Kingdom colony. Light Yellow- Republic of Rio de la Plata. Olive- Peru.

Pale Brown: Republic of Paraguay
Red: Republic of Brazil
Purple: Empire of Brazil
Blue: Republic of Amazonia
Orange: Dutch Brazil
Pale Pink: Patagonia, West India - both British
Dark Brown: French Guayana

Good guesses. Some are right but you have way to many independent nations. Only three of the countries are independant: the Yellow-Gold, the Pale Yellow and the Pale Brown.

Did you like it otherwise?

Ill leave the map over the weekend before I post the one with all the names.

Based on the guesses so far, this is revealed:

Red: Parana, Nordic
White: Orinoco, Austrian
Green: Chile, ??
Pale Pink: British Patagonia and West India, British
Pale Yellow, Kingdom of Rio de La Plata, independent
Orange: Mauritsland, Dutch
Purple: Brazil, ??

A surviving Kalmar combined with Portugal and Spain spending their effort on fighting each other could very well mean the Atlantic islands and South America ending up much more NW European (British, Dutch and Kalmar).

So why not let the colours be:

Blue: Nieuv Nederland (the Amazonas delta reminding them of the Rhine's exit)

Orange, purple, red, l.green, brown, green, pink and l. yellow started as Kalmar colonies, but after an independence war in late 18th century became independent. Formally in a loose federation, but soon this vaporised, and ended formally after the bloody war between the northern and southern states. By 20th century names are:

Orange: Woodland Republic
Purple: Bahia United Municipalities
Red: Kingdom of Whitebeach
Brown: Mzstexa Krask (some Indian language, meaning "land of beer and honey")
L.Green: Wide Mountain Empire
L. Yellow: Oxen Federal Kingdom (cattlebreeders)
Pink: Great Principality of Kap Horn and Trinidad
Green: Splazh Pip Klingg (local language meaning "bird shit is money")

Dark yellow: What was left the Spaniards, named Eucador
White: British Petroleum Dependencies
The two brownish colours right of BPD are: French Guyana (French department) and Peoples Republic of Brasil (Portugese until 1912).

No, because the treaties precluding ToT also happened ATL

Just to be a little whiner , I must admit that Im a little dissapointed in the lack of response. SA maps are often asked for, so I actualy had expected a few more posts :(

End of rant :D

That's a POD?
I'd have thought with the first POD already in place its a given

Not precisely, it might be given a different name, but with a 1300s POD it's still likely that it will be Spain or Portugal that discover the new world and have it arbitrarily divided between them.

You are perhaps right Leej. I should probably have called it a butterfly effect. OTOH, thanks Thande :D

As both Leej and I know, the two of us does not share the same "theoretical" stand regarding AH :D

Lets not make this into a discussion of principles, why dont the two of you comment/name my map within my perhaps void conditions :)

ok give it a go...

Okay starting in the Carribean and working south around the continent ..we give it a go....

Pink Carribean: West Indies Federation (Br.)
Orange Carribean: Netherlands Antilles
blue: Aruba (french)..though maybe it isn't coloured can't really tell but it looks light blue to me.
white: Venezuela ( American protectorate/influenced )..mind you could be a US state.
Dk Yellow : Guyana ( Br. )
light Brown: Suriname ( Netherlands Guiana )
Blue: French Amazonie
orange: Parnaiba ( Dutch? protectorate/influenced )
purple: Brazil
Red: Parana ( Br. Protectorate/influenced )
Dk Brown, Rep or kdm of Paraguay
lt Green: Uruguay (Spanish)
lt Yellow: Rep of Argentina
Pink S. America: Patagonia (Br)
Falkland Is. (Br)
DkGreen: Chile ( Spanish Protectorate/influenced )
Gold-Yellow: Rep. of Colombia (Formerly Gran Colombia) Alternatively, Bolivia after its founder, S. Bolivar.

Off the map to the West of Panama...Empire of Mexico....incl. Tejas, Nueva Nexico and Alta California.

I like it....

Now it would be nice to see the North America that goes with this....

French Louisiane: West of the Mississippi to the Rockies and Tejas.
USA: east of the Mississippi
Fed. Rep. of New England
Rep. of Cuba y Florida Oriental
Canada

The Europeans have been extremely busy in the Americas this time around...Not even the remotest concept of a Monroe Doctrine here.

Nice, we are closing in here :D But if you had read a earlier post of mine you could have found a few answers there :p :D

So what have we got so far:

Red: Parana, Nordic
White: Orinoco, Austrian
Green: Chile, ??
Pale Pink: British Patagonia and West India, British
Pale Yellow, Kingdom of Rio de La Plata, independent
Orange: Mauritsland, Dutch
Purple: Brazil, ??
Yellow-Gold: ??, ??
Pale Brown: ??, ??
Blue: France Equinoxiale, French
Dark Brown: ??, ??
Pale Orange: ??, ??
Green-Yellow: Uruguay, ??

Any Chinese, Moghul, Songhai, Arab, etc colonies in the map?

EDIT: Just kidding, by the way, since nobodies been having too much success.

using otl states as a reference:

Peruvian state: Viceroyalty of Peru (in Revolt, was Spanish)
state around OTL Venezuela: Darien (Scotland)
western Guiana: Suriname (Dutch)
eastern Guiana: Guyana (Kalmar)
Amazon: English Amazonia
small state near the Amazon: Polish Amazonia (alernatively, Prussian or an Italian state)
north-east Brazil: French Brésil
southern Brazil: Brasile (Savoy, alternatively another Italian state, or again Polish or Prussian)
Uruguay: Uruguai (Portugese)
Paraguay: Republica de Paraguay (formerly Spanish)
Argentina: Viceroyalty of Rio de La Plata (in Revolt, was Spanish)
Chile: Viceroyalty of Peru (loyal, Spanish)
Patagonia: English Patagonia

Basically, I just wanted to screw around...

Here is how I see it:

The "Germany" that has Chile is just a placeholder. I have not yet come up with a name for my alternate "Kingdom of Prussia"
