Adding latitude and longitude lines

How do you expert mapmakers add your lat and lon lines? That is the sole aspect of higher mapmaking I just have no clue about.

I usually just trace whatever latitude and longitude line are on my basemap - it's very easy to do in vector drawing programs like Inkscape.

For the CS Basemaps there's a blank (as in no borders) map that has them on it someone made awhile back.
