  1. AHC: Create a "Taiwan-and-China" situation in your country
    Threadmarks: Theoretical_TJ - United States, Japan - Cuba, Okinawa/Taiwan

Cuba is almost a perfect analogue - extremely close to the mainland. A native population that's not necessarily thrilled with the wave of foreign mainlanders taking over and dominating their country as they flee the oppressive evil regime on the mainland in the wake of a communist or fascist US...
  2. WI: Cybernetic sharks as naval weapons?

Julia Child's very first recipe (she wasn't originally a cook) was shark repellent for the OSS, and it's still in use.
  3. Albion Rising: A Henry Frederick Timeline

It actually took a lot OTL to galvanize Cromwell into his actions and radicalism, so it's not surprising he's on the king's side here.
  4. Albion Rising: A Henry Frederick Timeline

The Puritan position ITTL is interesting. Henry is not showing the sorts of antagonism towards the Reformist party that Charles did especially because Anna converted to Protestantism and didn't require the sorts of accommodations Henrietta did. Even Charles in Scotland seems like far less of an...

  6. Feel the Bearn - A Timeline of France's Only Carrier in WWII and Beyond

I posted the above almost three years ago (just after the attack on Ike) and never imagined how true that would've been. This TL continues to impress.

Best Cold War to Contemporary Timeline: Hale, Vladivostok! By @herlockscholmes
  8. Watching From San Diego - A Two for One July 20th 1944 TL

I think the fly in the ointment here is going to be the Soviet Atom Bomb and especially the spies like Fuchs and the Rosenbergs. That could cause this to unravel very quickly and more so than for Truman given Wallace’s more collaborative nature.
  9. Feel the Bearn - A Timeline of France's Only Carrier in WWII and Beyond

One positive note, Truman is absolutely the best President to have for this, because he is serious about the Buck Stops here. That means he might actually take the step of saying that the attacks that looked like werewolves and ongoing war efforts have been conclusively proven to be British...
  10. Feel the Bearn - A Timeline of France's Only Carrier in WWII and Beyond

Oh this could be most spectacular. Forget the Trent Affair. Try relations with the Brits returning to the War of 1812 levels. Also, Joseph Kennedy will cackle like Palpatine at the foolishness of trusting or supporting the British.
  11. Watching From San Diego - A Two for One July 20th 1944 TL

If Helmuth James von Moltke survived, he’d be hugely valuable to the German government as an avowed anti-Nazi from the very beginning and a gifted lawyer who helped Jews escape before the war and he also helped warn the Danish (along with Werner Best) about the Jewish deportations. He was not...
  12. AHC: Have a US state secede in the 20th century

The easiest way I could see would be the pocketbook, similar to how much of the furor for western Canadian secession comes from tax revenues going east especially to Quebec. Get Congress to enact and the Supreme Court to bless some highly unequal, clearly unconstitutional but “let the supremes...
  13. WI: Russia retains Alaska, Fort Ross, and Annexes Hawaii in 1800s?

What if Russia ends up losing the Napoleonic wars but a huge contingent of elites cross the Urals and decide to make the East their destiny? It’d probably be too poor too have a serious colonial presence, but one wonders what an Asiacentric Russia as opposed to a Eurocentric Russia would look like.
  14. Albion Rising: A Henry Frederick Timeline

Yes, but they’re in a far weaker position, especially if some of Charles/Laud’s OTL heavy-handedness is blunted or absent. It’s hard to imagine now with how much Protestantism and Anglicanism especially has swung to the other extreme nowadays, but the degree of enforced and downright punitive...
  15. Albion Rising: A Henry Frederick Timeline

These changes make TTLs England far more Protestant and Scotland much less agitated. The seeds of civil war are still there but they’re much less sectarian and more strictly Royal vs Parliamentary.
  16. Albion Rising: A Henry Frederick Timeline

So the religious differences from OTL are potentially interesting here. Henry is married to a very moderate Catholic and possibly even a silent Anglican (probably more Lutheran than Reformed). How are the relations with the more moderate Puritans compared to James and Charles at this stage...
  17. Awful Pre-1900 TL Ideas

Whoa, that's a heck of a unionist Lee twist, and with potentially nightmarish outcomes.
  18. What if japan attacked/destroyed the panama canal at the same time as pearl harbour?

I actually think Germany would be far more likely to pull off an attack than Japan, but it wouldn’t be either country’s own ships doing it. The scheme would be this. As a hedge against losing the war in 1917, certain German spies go deep underground as generational sleeper agents to provide...
  19. Most Extreme Pre-Modern Ideology?

Get enough elements of the radical anabaptists to gain traction - the Munster Rebellion in particular, and you can get a very scary millenarian Revolution. The persecution done was absolutely awful but given that Catholics, Reformed, and Lutheran all reacted the same way is telling. Calvin gets...
  20. Planters' land broken up after the American Civil War

I would imagine there’d be more interest in confiscation plus forced exile and citizenship stripping for the planter class and other southern elites. Treason charges would likely also be applied more broadly than in OTL. I could also see the re-enfranchisement clause of the 14th amendment...
