    IIRC thats only speculation from some historians with regard to the one post-Washington time there was a unanimous EC in 1820. Even if that elector did faithlessly vote for that reason its not a "long tradition" by any means.

    IIRC there was a plan going around for the US to annex all of Mexico. It was shot down because of racism in a lack of desire to add so many Mexicans to the population.

    I tried the strategy game Grand Tactician: Civil War (1861-1865). Its basically a Total War game set in the American Civil War. I made this infobox based off the final battle before the CSA surrendered in my first campaign.

    Brooklyn voted for consolidation. It was the town of Westchester (what is now the Eastern half of the Bronx) which rejected consolidation. They did so by 1 vote. The state decide that was close enough and forced Westchester to join the greater NYC.
