AHC: Make Russian an accepted part of the west.

I'm particularly very liberal when it comes to language. People call things the way they want: if they want to say "West" meaning "NATO", good. That's absolutely normal. However, it might become problematic when it fundamentally changes people's perception of world reality. For instance, it...

What would a Communist Britain name things?

I was thinking about that. If this Revolution spills over one or more Dominions, the whole things would probably ended up in a very centralized state in London, like happened in OTL USSR. A communist version of the old Imperial Federation trope: they might be de jure more independent...

AHC: Make Russian an accepted part of the west.

I mentioned that earlier that I found very weird the use of term "West" meaning "NATO", but one particularly annoying that I forgot to mention is conflates "West" with "high income economy". That one is even more problematic as it implies "West" (a word that only exists as a replacement for...

AHC: Make Russian an accepted part of the west.

A forumer adressed this earlier in this thread: it's not like the Revolution (product of Western philosophy) fundamentally changed Russia. The thing is USSR grew stronger and stronger and developed in opposition to the rest of Europe and West and that's why became the "other". They themselves...

Ok, but then we have the definition problem, people using "West" meaning things like Christendom or details of the US current foreign policy. What I'm saying is by being part of European monarchies system since the early 18th century, they were seen as part of "Europe" (and by consequence of...

And it would be much simpler and straighforward if Americans used a word other than "West" to describe their post WWII vassal states. When Queen Victoria has a Russian great-grandson potentially ruling as Emperor of Russia, that's an indication that this country was fully accepted as part of...

Could fascism survive to the present without WW2?

Tourism might be overstated, specially around that time. Spanish economic growth was a much more comprehensive phenomenon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_miracle Regarding the thread, yes, Fascist regimes could easily be around till today, specially with such massive PoV.

AHC: Make Russian an accepted part of the west.

Why would that make any difference? OTL Russia eventually got St. Petersburg, German czars and got completely absorbed into European politics, even getting a colonial empire as their western peers got in Americas. I don't think Moscow, Novgorod or any East Slavic state that could emerge are...

AHC: Make Russian an accepted part of the west.

In this case, we're deliberately choosing to give a political conotation to the term. It's definitely not the only meaning possible. Europe is a very cohese geography, same religion, similar languages, a shared culture in way Africa or Asia aren't. If Europe hadn't conquered entire continents...

Precisely. We must keep in mind the last Russian czar was the grandchild of the British Queen, by definition the pinnacle of British society. They were part of the same system. When Revolution came (derived from an European ideology), Russia indeed diverged, became too big and different, the...

Today's China is very different from Ancient China, but it's still China. Ancient Rome and Greece are not West because they miss Christianity, the most important part of Europe's historical identity, the element that glued the whole continent together. However, Rome and Greece are certainly...

Again, who are those? Ordinary people in New York or Washington? Why not scholars in Madrid, clergy in Rome or media in Buenos Aires? No problem on using "West" as another word for "NATO" (I myself find it quite odd though, we can always say NATO), but it's obviously not the only meaning the...

What's the most ironic thing in this whole discussion is the fact of how Anglophone societies are the ones that use the word "West" more often than anyone else, while being historically the most anti-Catholic ones to the point of designing great part of their own identities in opposition to the...

Chile is a bit closer to Western Europe than Poland though. Things like language or overall social attitudes which is expected being a direct offshoot of an Western European country.

AHC: Make Russian an accepted part of the west.

West was a term used to replace Europe/Christendom when "Europe" was no longer confined to its original continent and turned Americas/Siberia/Oceania into its mere extension. However, for some reason, in Anglophone countries the term that was used to describe a 2,000 year/long civilization was...

This map is one of the weirdest fandom I've seen. I wonder how a person described as himself as a historian was brave enough to put this forward.

From the 18th century up to 1917, Russia was integral part of the European system, one of the most important player.

What is a common thing or trope that always seem to happen?

It's the god-like elite. That's obviously an absurd as the elite is human and as human they can indulge themselves on all kinds of fantasies, prejudicies and self-destructive behaviours. It's so weird as something so obvious for anyone past childhood/adolescence but we always see that coming.
