  1. Defense Mapping

    More!!!! ( please ) <G> Regards, Gerard
  2. AHC: British strategic bomber

Would it be possible to get a "cheap" nuclear mini-ALCM by putting a WE177 warhead of some version into a Storm Shadow missile ? I've seen a photo of a Nimrod MR2/4 with 4 of those missiles under the wings, so it might have had some sort of bomber role, if the project had been done right...
  3. AHC: British strategic bomber

There's a nice pic around of a Nimrod with 4 x Storm Shadow's on the wing pylons..... http://s185.photobucket.com/user/RolandPulfrew/media/MRA4CombatISTAR2.jpg.html Regards, Gerard
  4. Cato's Cavalry

I do have to admit that a Roman style 1st Air Cav Leigon does have some appeal to it. Jumping out of Hueys, carrying small shield, sword, and M-16. Regards, Gerard
  5. AHC: Assault over Stanley Beaches?

No-go on the Ascension / Paras / C-130 op. I don't think that there is enough runway / taxiway / fuel storage for 30 / 60 C-130 and associated tankers, and the rest of what's there. And we didn't have the tankers anyway. Getting enough for the Vulcan raids was hard enough. Regards...
  6. How much material support did the NVA and Viet Cong receive from the Soviet Union?

You're talking of the end of the 1960's / early 70's. I'm talking about about a few years earlier. Remember that while other countries did have the S-75, they were supplied by Moscow, who had the final say over who got them. I also said "almost" the best / latest. I know that by 1973...
  7. How much material support did the NVA and Viet Cong receive from the Soviet Union?

North Vietnam had the SA-2 "Guideline" SAM. Only place to get that system was Moscow, so they were getting almost the best / latest gear that was practical / useful for that theatre of war. Also the Mig-19 and MiG-21. Near the end, SA-7 Grail / Strela SAM to shoot down helos with, too...
  8. Non US designed Aircraft in servive with the USAF/USN/USMC

One other point about all those small buys of non-US-build transports. It is precisely BECAUSE they're not US planes, or rather, not standards US C-130 / C-17 / C-5. They're for SOF use, some in corporate / "almost civilian" camo schemes, so are difficult to identify, and so don't stand...
  9. Osirak in a Surviving Imperial Iran Timeline

Iran did actually mount an air raid on Osirak on 30th Sept 1980, using a pair of F-4's. Some damage was done to control room and other facilities, the reactor dome was not targeted. 2 other F-4's hit the main Baghdad power plant at the same time. Regards, Gerard
  10. AHC: Dozen or More F-15 Operators

It may be of interest that the early F-15A/B were capable of A/G ops. There are some photos of them dropping Mk.82 500 lb and Mk.84 2000 lb dumb bombs, ( no PGMs yet ) I mean regular USAF not ED or OT or McDD. I keep thinking that it was the 1st FW "FF" over at Langley. Back in the...
  11. Harry Potter and the Small Screen

Thank you for posting the most fascinating HP thread that I've seen here on AltHist. Ever. I need to think about doing some replies to you pretty soon. Regards, Gerard
  12. Challenge :Create the best disaster relief force.

Nice cheap floating bases ? Use converted / old oil tankers. Lots of room, space to put a flightdeck on top. Use containers for storage / hangars. Cheap enough to put some in the main problem areas. Helos - CH-53E or Mil-26 Halo if you want max lift. Air transports - C-17A, C-130, and...
  13. A Blank Map Thread

Thank you all for a lot of wonderful maps!!!!! < saving as many as possible....> Regards, Gerard
  14. No chocolate ?

As kilngirl and others have said, it would be a BAD thing. Not sure that I could even survive in world without chocolate..... < unwrapping a 24-pack of Cadburys, so that I'll feel better......> ( and uploading some to the nicer people in here ) Regards, Gerard
