1st January 2000: As the clock strikes Midnight and the fireworks go off, the entire city of New York is transported exactly 1000 years into the past. New York City is in the same geographical location as before. All planes above New York City, all ships in the immediate area are taken as well. What happens next?

1st January 1000 AD, 12:00 am: All TV and radio signals being broadcast from outside the New York region are cut off. Hundreds of people calling to places outside of New York City are cut off. Cars leaving the Hudson tunnel bound for Jersey City find that the road, and Jersey City, have dissappeared. Internet users find that the majority of the WWW has dissappeared.

1205 am: People begin to realise that something is amiss. People in areas where the stars aren't completely blocked out notice that the constellations aren't quite right. Some people, trying to contact others outside of NYC are stricked, thinking that the Y2K bug has taken hold. However, most of the partying masses in Time Square are oblivious to the problems and continue to party.

1:00 am: Rumours begin to trickle through the city that there have been some strange occurances, but these are dismissed by most as simply Y2K fears perpertrated by scaremongers. A great number of New Yorkers are asleep.

2:34 am: A young Iroquois couple, returning from a midnight romp in the forest, are astonished to find a sparkling giant city where their village should be. Terrafied, they run to a nearby peaceful tribe of Algonquians, where they tell their story.

3:05 am: Fred Smith, a New York accountant, wakes up to go for a shit. Then he notices that his flush toilet doesn't work. Thinking it the Y2K bug and fearing the end of the world, he runs to his balcony and leaps to his death. He was a very depressed man.

4:00 am: A rather tired Mayor Giuliani calls an emergency meeting of the city leaders to order. It has become obvious that something is terribly wrong, as contact with the outside world has been cut off. There is increased unrest in the city as Y2K fears set in, however a great number of people are still oblivious to the fact that the rest of the USA has dissapeared. Police Commisioner Howard Safir is ordered to put the entire police force on standby, for use combating riots.

7:30 am All New York TV and radio stations begin to broadcast the same programme, Mayor Giuliani telling people to stay calm and to stay in their homes. The police begin to patrol the streets in full combat uniforms, looking out for riots. All outgoing flights from JFK and La Guardia airports are delayed indefinately. The United Nations has an emergency meeting to discuss the events, which doesn't achieve any real success, with representatives cut off from their respective countries. The plumbers of New York are now working around the clock to get water access restored to the City. Filtering systems, rainwater tanks, and sewerage recycling facilities are hurriedly set up and local meteorologists are consulted on the next rainfalls.

9:00 am By now most of the city knows about the catastrophe. Mayor Giuliani appeals to the people to donate any bottled water to the City Water Fund, which is collecting water to quench the masses as fast as it can.

12:15 pm: Thunderstorm breaks out over New York. All over the city, rainwater is collected and added to the City Water Fund. Rainwater drains have been covered up, so the roads are deep with water.

around 12:30 am: The inhabitants of a small village near Constantinople are awoken by a spectacular crash as a flight bound for Istanbul that left New York City at about 12:15 am attempts to land where Istanbul International Airport should be. Miraculously, there are at least 20 survivors and only 3 are killed by superstitious locals by the time the authorities arrive. They are sent to Constantinople where they are going to be met by Emperor Basil II.

They are:

1. Professor John Banks, Historian and Linguist
2. Dr Joseph O'Donald, Psychiatrist
3. Dr Dana Phillips, Biologist
4. Dr Lars Hendrikson, Chemist
5. Dr Carol Clark, Physician
6. General George McGonnoly, Retired US Army General
7. Mrs Francine McGonnoly, Teacher
8. Ms Georgina Queen, Feminist
9. Mr Lucas Farley, Gay Banker
10. Rev. Michael Godfrey, Puritan Preacher
11. Mr Bradley Ferrikson, Lawyer
12. Mrs Susan Ferrikson, Policewoman
13. Mstr Alexander Ferrikson, High school student
14. Miss Isabelle Ferrikson, NYU student
15. Ms Mellisa Joseline, Lead Singer for the 'Beast Killers'
16. Mr Richard Goldback, Novelist
17. Miss Sabrina Virginia, New Ager

2:30 pm: A group of Algonquian warriors enter the city via the Hudson tunnel and begin to attack a few locals. They are arrested, following a struggle, by a police patrol soon after.

6:30 pm The 17 survivors of the plane crash arrive in Constantinople. Luckily, one survivor, Professor John Banks, is fluent in Latin and Greek and manages to convince the authorities to leave the rest of the survivors in locked quarters while he speaks to Emperor Basil II privately. The audiennce is set for tomorrow at 2 pm, 8 am NY time.

11:35 pm Mayor Giuliani's nonstop message for calm ends, and the Tonight Show comes on. Exerpt from the show -

...So this is the Apocalypse, is it? Alone with 7.5 million New Yorkers, maybe this is Jay Leno's personal purgatory. Oh well, at least we can look forward to an eternity of Days of our Lives repeats.....

January 2, 1000 AD, 8 am: Prof. Banks meets with Emperor Basil II. Surprisingly, he takes the news that they are from the future quite well. It turns out he is a 11th century science fiction buff, and has read a book on the topic (time travel). Plus, much of the wreckage of the crashed airplane, after the fires were put out, were taken to Constantinople and shown to the Emperor earlier. Actually, he is quite interested in the time-travellers. Thoughts of what 1000 years of scientific advancement, run through his mind. He requests that, since the time-travellers can't be sent back to wherever they came from (briefly the thought of what the Anglo-Saxons would say after learning that the plane took off from a New York City flashes through Proffessor Banks mind), they might as well make good use of themselves. Any new skills and knowledge that could be passed on would be very useful. Prof. Banks agrees that might be rather easy to provide (Among the survivors are two engineers, a doctor, a physisist and an electronics expert). He also mentions that as much of the wreckage and surviving luggage should be rescued.

1:35 pm: A group of Muslim terrorists known as the Islamic Fist highjack a boat and sail east from the Hudson Bay.

3:24 pm: A secret government organisation stationed in NYC manages to make contact with a spy sattellite orbiting in a geosynchronist position over New York. They begin to try and focus on certain areas where habitation should be, but often see only villages.

8:30 pm: Viking Explorer Leif Ericson sights a strange light on the horizon and begins to sail toward it. He soon realizes that it is a giant city. As he gets close, a blinding light illuminates the wooden longboat. He, and his crew are then arrested by the Coast Guard and his ship towed in to port.

9:35 pm: Both the Algonquians and the arriving Vikings are vaccinated for influenza after one of the Algonquian warriors takes sick and dies. Mayor Giuliani, hearing of these strange criminals, arrives at the prison with two interpreters to try and communicate.

January 3, 1000, 12:45 am: After careful analysis and observation, the New York scientific community and releases the information to the Mayor's office.

7:30 am: Mayor Giuliani appears on TV and reveals the shocking news that the city has been transported back in time 1000 years. He calls upon every unemployed man (the number of unemployed in the city has increased dramatically in the last 3 days), woman and child in the city to help in making the city self-sufficient.

January 4-March 1, 2000: Many people are now camping outside the city near fresh water deposits and suchforth. Small farms are being started up and hunting parties are set up to catch wild game in the area. Long-drop toilets are built in Central park and other areas.

The Algonquian tribe makes peace with New York and begins to help them. Leif Ericson and his crew sail back to Norway to spread the word of what's happened there. The UN disbands.

Common diseases such as measles, influenza, etc are spreading east of the great lakes. Most of the tribes nearest to NYC have been vaccinated, but many have not. There is much death in the more close-knit communities.

The Muslim terrorists arrive at Cadiz, Spain. They visit the caliph of the Umayyad dynasty in Cordoba and tells him who they are. Then they shoot one of his guards and tell him again. This time he believes them. They leave some men there and then depart for Jerusalem.

In Constantinople most of the stranded aircraft passengers are getting the hang of Greek and Latin.

....more to come....
