what if Germany had forced Ferenc Szalasi, head of Arrow Cross coalition, to be named Prime Minister of Hungary 1939? and when regent Horthy resists? used the same tactics as in 1944 and he is named "Leader" as well and Horthy "retires."

what would effects be?

my scenario is that he would readily accept (OTL) offer to annex all of Slovakia.

join in invasion of Poland.

conscript a large part of Slovak population into their Labour Service http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_service_(Hungary)

What would the people of Hungary have to say about all this?

about the same as Slovaks had to say when they were forced into Axis.

won quite a large support in 1939 during elections, not that impossible he could have won more if he delivered territories of Slovakia peacefully?

and all the parties were on the right end of spectrum.

or if he's not named prime minister, named to replace Horthy as regent.

Slovakia was occupied, no? In 1939 Hungary wasn't, was it?

the wolf was at the door for all the countries in the region.

Hungary was treated fairly well by Germany as they only gained territory at every stage, the Vienna Awards, the "Little War" (with Slovakia)

my reading was that they held Szalasi and Arrow Cross at arms length even though they were technically a national socialist party? because they did not like their ambitions for Hungary?

my speculation was what if Germans pushed for Szalasi at an earlier time than OTL, they had the levers of trade, military equipment, their own army at the ready, Romanian army on the border, and the Slovak army on the other border.

if Teleki had not become prime minister in 1939 - 1941, either Imredy continued or Szalasi took over. almost certain Hungary would have annexed all of Slovakia. probably under Szalasi they would have joined invasion of Poland, under either they would have allowed movement of German troops and sealed the border to escaping Polish troops and civilians.

what would be the military effects be of the free movement of German troops to invade Poland? stopping the 100k troops that evacuated from Poland to west? and (probable) conscription of great numbers of Slovaks to fight in USSR?
