US does not get involved in the affairs of the Middle east, post WWII. No serious financial or politico-military alliance with new state of Israel, and Eisenhower adopts a develop and use American oil resources first and foremost policy, so we do not end up buying appreciable quantities of Middle Eastern oil either. What are consequences?

1 Israel would still happen but it would probably become a one party Soviet client state run entirely by Jewish Communists with a more Serbian-style view of human rights. After primarily Jewish Communists taking Palestine away from the British Empire, the new Palestinian State would become a major base for Soviet expansion in the Middle East. After the Soviets had a strangle hold on the Middle East oil, the British and Europeans would be in a very tough place to prosper. Soviet expansion and support for radical terrorist groups around the world includng Mexico and South America would be accelerated. US might lose the Cold War or wind up actually having to
fight a nuclear war against the Red Hordes. Texas oil millionaires like the Hunt
family own America big time

2 Israel, the British and the French do not leave the Sinai and Suez after
the '56 war, and the '67 war may not happen at all. Well, I think Israel is much more closely tied to Europe, militarily, and eventually in other ways as well. The Gaza Strip is annexed. Without Egypt on the flank, Syria and Jordan do not get aggressive, and no '67 war. I think Israel may join the EEC at about the same time as the various southern European nations. With Europe more focused on the Middle East, you may also see admission of Turkey to the EEC by 1990.
