Here's a nice little challenge for you:
What about a map of Israel in 1950 split into four nations:
-People's Zionist Republic of Israel (South Israel), a Warsaw Pact country which controls southern israel and Yafo(southern Tel Aviv) Capital is in Beersheba.
-the State of Israel (North Israel), a democracy which controls northern Israel and Tel Aviv, which is just northern Tel Aviv OTL. Capital is in Haifa.
-Free State of Jerusalem, a territory shared by North and South Israel
-Palestine (West Bank and Gaza OTL)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's some history:
Back in the 1920s, there was a split within the jewish settlements in Palestine between the republicans who wanted democracy and the communists, immigrants from the USSR who supported socialism. After WW2, the UN proposes to divide British Palistine into the nations of Palestine and the State of Israel. As in OTL, the muslims refuse and things don't end so well for them, and the State of Israel is declared. Israel still fights against the arab nations and gains the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. In the early 1950s the USSR started funding
radical communists to gain a new ally in the the middle east. Eventually, they declared independece as the People's Zionist Republic of Israel. This resulted in the Israeli Civil War. The occupied territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip saw their chance to secede and declared the Palestinian Republic. The war ended in a ceasefire in 1957. In the 1970s border disputes in North and South Jerusalem got so hot that war once again broke out between the two Israels. The War of Jerusalem ended with the Treaty of Haifa, which created a buffer zone in Jerusalem between the two nations.
