World War IV

Getting back to the subject at hand, how about starting with a nuclear WWIII? I'd put it around the time of the cuban missile crisis.

Start with the use of both superpowers nuclear arsenals, then move on to conventional warfare in the devastated territories. This results in pretty much the fall of western civilization, excepting Australia.

After the dust settles, over a couple of years, all the client states of the USA and USSR comes to realize that they have no constraints imposed on them anymore. A large number of smaller wars break out in South America, Africa, And the Middle East.

Maybe toss in a low-key wrestle between an immigrant-swelled Australia and China in southeast asia.

This could be called WWIV by historians. A time when nearly every nation not ruined by nuclear war was involved in some armed conflict on at least one of its borders.

A state of war without any two defined sides struggeling.

@DN: Einstein was pretty right when he predicted that after a global thermonuclear war mankind would fall back into stone age. If any humans survive at all.
