Well part of the reason that the revolutions were so impact full - I hesitate to call them a success is the majority of people had access to Social Media and there was a food price crisis in much of the third world. In the 80's/90's Social Media is in its infancy with cellphones being both expensive and about the size of your hand so I guess the real questions are how and why do they mobilize when the government controls media and communications?
