some may have noticed that this is a departure from OTL US early battleship design. This comes from a Sam Carson mention that the USS Dakota carried its ten twelve inch guns in four turrets I can't remember it it was during the attack on the Sandwich Islands, the battle of the Three Navies. or one of the various Carson PoV's. that quote means that the 191 Dakota has a set up like the OTL USS Nevada. leading to the rest of the changes.

Any idea how many ships were in each class?

Nicely done. I take it the target atoll is still Bikini, and the drop aircraft is a B-29. So is Houston or Georgia the one that's upside down at Kawajalein?

Ranger is similar to OTL's Lexington and Saratoga: any other members of the class?

I was chatting with some people on Discord, and they suggested somewhere in the Caribbean, and determined that the island of St. Barts would be the best fit.

ex-CSS Houston would be the one sharing the fate of Prinz Eugen for this timeline.

And Ranger is more or less a one off vessel, but based off of USS Remembrance

No Bikini Atoll is held by Japan. The only thing the US holds in the Pacific at the end of the second great war is just the Sandwich Islands, Midway and Wake.

Then I stand corrected. But DBE's writeup of the postwar settlement has this:

• America’s jurisdiction over all French and British Caribbean colonies is recognized. The USA also gains French Polynesia, the Gilbert Islands, the Cook Islands, and New Caledonia.

I'm sure the U.S. could have found a desirable Pacific atoll to have the tests. When thermonuclear weapons are developed, they will need one.

St. Barts still has a population of over 2000 and is within 30 miles of 4 other islands with populations of over 1000, located such that whichever way the wind blows fallout would land on a populated island

I'd say Johnston Atoll is likely, it's east of Wake and Midway, so would be US in basically any scenario and was used for nuclear testing OTL. There's also French Frigate Shoals between Midway and Hawaii

The US did have pre civil war claims to Kingman Reef, Palmyra Atoll (also claimed by Hawaii), Baker Island, Jarvis Island and Howland Island, of some might be suitable for testing, mainly the first two, but whose status is uncertain given their location, though all are further east than Wake Island

Ah, good points, and I had earlier thought about Vairaatea Atoll, which was formerly part of the French Empire, as well as Mururoa, which OTL, was used a Nuclear Test Site by France OTL

All of the UK islands go to the U.S. postwar, so Christmas Island-which was used by both the U.S. and British OTL for nuclear tests up until 1962, is another possibility.
