The Official What-If Comic Character List

Rebel (a.k.a. Connor O"Reilly)- Engineer and former colleague of Anthony Stark, the Stanford graduate blamed the initial failure of his start-up company in 1994 to pressures by the mutant community and an overinvasive federal government. His unwillingness to follow basic safety and labor codes earned him the nickname "Rebel" by federal prosecutors. Financially and publicly humiliated by legal investigations, O'Reilly, with his assisstant Abner Ronald Jenkins went underground, along with his files on armor-weaponry. In 1995, he worked with several major right-wing militia groups in an effort to gain fundung for several projects, including the bombing of the Federal Building in Dallas, Texas (1996) and the raid on the federal armory in Arlington, Virginia (1997). In 1998, he earned international underground fame after creating the illegal website Sapient Deathmatch, wherein mutants would fight illegal cage matches against men in armor. By 2000, according to SHIELD and INTERPOL reports, O'Reilly had been actively selling armor-based weapons to right-wing militias in Latveria, Wakanda, Myanmar, Germany, Spain, Nigeria, and Indonesia. In 2001, he helped form the Underground Human Reisistance (UHR) which has developed a new threat, along with his active network of sale of armor-weapons.

Based on research by Dr. Henry Prm, M.D. and Dr. Kavitra Rao, M.D., he has created a new "genome weapon", which effectively nullifies a mutant's powers with either passive spray, an active injection, or vapor gas emission, often spread in the form of a small explosive. Effectively, many militia members have called this the "poor man's Seninel", and have sold this weapon on the black market. Despite challenges by the FCC, the formula for the genome weapon is easily displayed on the Internet. The effectiveness of the weapon is based solely on the purity and refinement of the weapon. Some can temporarily disable powers for under 12 hours, while other can permanently shut off the subject's powers....

Excerpt from The New York Post Ledger

Missing Four to Return?

Progress has been slow on the search for our beloved Fantastic Four. Nick Fury has given a statement out that contact has been reached with the Fantastic Four. However, the contact is several weeks old, and concentrating on the unknown species called the Shiar, whom also report that their Crystal (god) has cracked for some odd reason.

Previous records issued by SWORD have not entailed any details about this new species. There have been assumptions that they are akin to the former Herald of Galactus; humanoid, prone to awesome powers, as well as being subject for higher alien powers. Confirmation on this rumor has not been ratified due to more terrestrial incidents at home concerning the Red Skull.

Hopefully Nick Fury will summon the strength that SHIELD once had as protector of the free world and pull our heroes home.

An Unexpected Twist....

Rom, Galadorian Space-Knight (a.k.a. Rom McCoy)- Rom, Order of the House of Galador, was one of 1,000 volunteers who were assigned to protect Cobol Sector in 1779 (which contained a minor world in the Sol System), where he protected the region of space without incident against the Dire Wraiths, Galactcus and His Herald Logan, and the Brood. He was even at the first appearence of Galactcus in Canada. He was successfully left out of human records until a secret attack was launched on the town of Clairton, West Virginia in 1979. In the aftermath of the disappearence of the First Line and the absence of any major hero teams, Rom was considered a rare commodity. He would serve as a liason with the United Nations via SHIELD until 1986. In 1988, he nearly committed suicide upon learning of the "Pitt Disaster (12/22/1987)" and the devastation of the world Aquilonia, along with the extinction of its populace. In 1992, the world was shocked when the entire town of Clairton, West Virginia was abducted en masse as part of a Celestial experiment. It was in 1994, that Rom was able to return the town to Earth. In 1995, he was temporarily added to the Nova Corps, after several members went insane. In 1997, he was made an honorary member of the Avengers after helping prevent a Dire Wraith attack in New York City, NY. In 2000, he battled against Kree War Master Genis-Vehl, son of General Mar-Vehl, which has earned him the enmity of the Kree Imperial Militia. In 2006, a Galadorian pretender named Tristan, claiming to be his son, attempted to take over the Knights of Galador. Only through the efforts of Rom was a coup prevented. He currently lives quietly in Clairton, West Virginia with a human wife, Brandy Clark. He currently shares a grudging respect for Kristoff Vernard, Nova Corps, but likes to refer to him as "young punk"...

I had killed off Rom in the Howard Spaceknight posting earlier on. (Combo of Howard the Duck and Rom, Spaceknight)

Like the Rebel post.

Lionheart of Avalon

Lionheart of Avalon is currently held by Kelsey Shore Leigh. Considered to be more of a generational post similar to Captain America, a Lionheart did serve in World War II. Alas, the first person that held it was slain in combat with the name abandoned.

Kelsey Shore Leigh is often labeled as 'erratic' due to her continued conflicts with Captain Britain and Black Knight. Her past is somewhat tumultuous. She has continually claimed that her father had some links with the previous Lionheart as well as the title being within her own family since Anglo-Saxon times. The method in how she got her powers also remains a sore point with her colleagues due to her open ties with the noted Morgan Le/La Fey.

Kelsey Shore Leigh does dress in a union jack leotard with the "sword of vengeance" and/or quarterstaff. Her face does bear a long scar down her cheek hailing from one of the numerous SHIELD/Omega Red battles. Recently her violence level has been toned down due to undisclosed reasons. This has resulted in her carrying a metallic pole with double blades. She does have super strength, "magical" abilities similar to the previously stated criminal, and flight.

How About....

The Coup D'etat- The world community has been in shock ever since Logan (former herald of Galactcus), Chancellor Merrano, Betty Ross (a.k.a. the Incredible Hulk) , and Doctor Stephen Strange, while under the thrawl of the demon Yandroth, attempted the overthrow of the governments of Earth in 2003. With the "Power Cosmic", Logan is credited in killing Elektra, Gorgon, Northstar, along with bringing the SHIELD helicarrier over Hartford, Conneticut. To make matters worse Premier K'ang Bei Wang has demanded that SHIELD extradite the heroes to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague for trial for "crimes against humanity". Chancellor Merrano is currently avoiding any charges citing the fact that he is a head of state. With the destruction of the city of Shenyang directly related to the actions of Logan, Betty Ross, and Doctor Stephen Strange, a trial is most likely going to occur. Whether these heroes should go to trial has become the subject of great controversy....

Some New Ideas....

Mercury (a.k.a. Cessily Kincaid)- Cessily Kincaid was an unremarkable bike messenger in Portland, Oregon, who was perpetually 15 minutes behind schedule. That was until she had a car accident near the Tom McCall Waterfront. While the car accident took place at the waterfront, she was found knocked out, several miles away, near Mt. Hood. She is a divine deity similar to Thor, Heracles,Kali, and Heimdall. Much like Kali and Thor, Mercury inhabits the body of Cessily Kincaid. Like many gods, such as Sif, is an unexplained loss of memory. While Cessily Kincaid comprehends that she has superhuman powers. She is is completely unaware of her former divinity. This is probably complicated by the fact that Mercury is held by a female host at this juncture. As of 2006, she has moved to San Francisco, California to avoid the presence of other deities out of fear of the battles that usually accompany metahumans.

In 2007, a group of U.S. Coalition force members accidently triggered the release of a cryogenic system that had been in place since 1979. According to what few remains that were found, the members of the 1st Infanty Unit accidently awakened Crasniye Solleetsi (a.k.a. Project Red Sun), a third-generation Soviet "super-soldier" project. According to the few records by SHIELD, the Soviets transported Crasniye Solleetsi during the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Premier Mikhail Gorbachev killed the project in 1986, after concerns of revelations of Soviet human experiments. But conservative elements kelpt the project in Afghanistan as a "last-strike" measure, should the United States declare war. In 1989, Soviet Spetsnaz units sealed the cave where Project Crasniye Solleetsi was taking place, rather than let it fall into the hands of U.S. or Afghan forces. Members of the group include:

Coojeechiscue (Cubic): Field leader of Crasniye Solleetsi, she possesses the power to create cube-shaped force fields of varying sizes which can be used to either protect or contain people. Her first name is Nadehzda.

Rodstvow (Kinship, The People's Hero): Insane paranormal of extraordinary power, with the abilities of flight, energy projection, teleportation, molecular combustion, among others. He was once an artist, but descended into insanity when his power manifested after the White Event, causing the loss of several of his body parts. His family was also accidentally killed during his initial manifestation, after which the Soviet government took custody of him. His destroyed body parts were replaced with a specialized plastic-like substance in which his bio energy was able to retake human form.

Sillatochca (Force Point): Former mechanic with the ability to increase the pressure in objects with his mind, often causing them to explode. His power causes him severe migraines. Leonid Vishnevesky was blackmailed into the program with threats against his family, and is opposed to what he is made to do.

Shivowtnoeh (Animal): A Russian high school student named Irina Mityushova, she began a bestial transformation shortly after experiencing her mutant power for the first time. She possesses superhuman strength and senses, and natural weaponry including claws and horns. Her rational mind has also retreated behind a bestial personality.

Dehman Doosha (the Demon Within): A young, highly autistic pyrokinetic.

Well, if the mythological gods are interesting, here are a few more characters to make the ATL interesting:

Gilgamesh- Gilgamesh was initially born in 3257 BC in the region of the Tigris-Euphrates Valley that contains present day Baghdad, Iraq. He is considered the first recorded superhuman. He has wandered throughout history as an immortal mercenary. According to some reports he was at Golgotha as a Roman centurion in 33 AD. In 1518 AD, he stood with Hernan Cortez during his war against Montezuma. He was a witness of the transformation of Logan, Herald of Galactcus in the Nineteenth Century. In 1940 AD, he met Captain America (a.k.a. Isaiah Bradley) during the Battle of Britain. According to some reports, Gilgamesh was the one who shot Adolph Hitler in his bunker in 1945 AD. In 1970 AD, Gilgamesh took on the role of U.S. Army Major, Dr. Julius Goldmann, during the Battle of Nha Trang, South Vietnam. Technically, Gilgamesh is one of the younger deities, as compared to Thor, Kali, Heimdall, Mercury, et al. The fact that he has been in constant action like Heracles, has given him a skewed view of humanity. The fact that he is currently known as Major Barry Sadler, U.S. Army, stationed in the "Green Zone" of Baghdad has made him terribly nostalgic. He is often quoted as screaming, "I love the smell of napalm in hte morning!!!... It smells like victory!!!"

Horus (a.k.a.William Manchester)- Lt. William Manchester of the British RAF, was stationed in Egypt during the initial onset of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He was an exceptional pilot who was on the fast track to teach at the RAF College at Cranwell. While on routine patrol in Tornado GR4, he was brought down by an Iraqi spy, who planned to use the crash to sabotage Coalition morale. He would crash into the Valley of the Kings, which attracted the attentionof the Egyptian patheon. For his valiant efforts at avoiding crashing into any civilians, Manchester became the host for Horus, the Sky God. According to a message from Seth, Egyptian god of the dead, his mission is to help restore the Pantheon at Heliopolis. Much like Mercury, Lt. William Manchester has not come to terms with the fact that he is the host for an Egyptian deity. The fact that he is being called to restore the Pantheon in a mostly Muslim nation has earned him the Egyptian government's label of "terrorist", while the British government has termed him AWOL and a "rogue element", after an incident at Rendlesham in 1992, wherein fellow RAF officers attempted to examine him. He has battled Heimdall in 1995 Belfast, after neo-Nazi elements attempted to spark a sectarian conflict. He has been "unofficially" recruited by Jamie Braddock (a.k.a. "Captain Britiain") as part of the British STRIKE and Excalibur programs since 1998. While he is technically considered a criminal, many consider him "Britain's answer to the Thor..."

Coyote (a.k.a.Lucius St. Claire)- MCPO (Master Chief Pettiofficer) Lucius St. Claire is an incarnae of the Spirit Council of the Americas. As a guardian of people, he is kept within slumber to awaken in times of need. He has been an India Brave, a Raider, a Pirate, as Assassin, a Police Officer, and in his latest incarcation, a MCPO of the US Navy, attached to the United Nation. When he was brought out of his slumber this time, there weren't native chants, incense and fires to call him out of the rock. This time it was Eletric Torches, Side Scanning Radar, Temperature sensors and a large metallic gateway constructed against the rock face. Once the portal was attached to the smooth rock wall, upon the symbol of Coyote, so bodly blazened there, the tech began the slow build up of energy, which would have taken shamans, wizards and priests nearly a week of constant prayer and supplication to open the portal to the otherworld. Once all things were un alignment, all of the collective energy was injected into the coyote symbol, thus opening the portal to the other world. This time Coyote was not greeted by Natives, Farmers or Killers, this time he faced a USMC controlled labratory.

Stepping out he looked for the elements to craft his terrestrial body, with no dead animals offered unto him, he used the spare Stark tech body armor and Stark modified weapon systems within the armory. His built his new body out of the fullerene research materials, kevlar, mylar and various ceramics and metals. Using his god-like powers he took a hair from the ground, place it on his head, and grew a human covering over his mechanical body. He then learned that he was needed to not only defend his people, but a great majority of people across the globe.

Several Years of combat training, acclamation, and adjustment to his quasi-biological condition showed his combat capabilities. His body, composed of Fullrene, could take a massive amount of damage, and would allow him a great amout of strength and speed, for his muscles, tendons feel no pain, and have no need for nutrients. He would eventually begin to regain his magics, which were greatly enhanced by newly constructed body.

His magic spear, having been reducted to a sharpened magical rock, was recreated, mounted upon a collaspable staff of adamantium and vibranium, he created a weapon to rival Captain America's shield.

Triathalon (a.k.a. Sanjaya Sai Baba) - Sanjaya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, India was a world-class marathon runner, until 1998, when his brother lured him into the more lucrative world of archaeological theft. While in Uravakonda, he uncovered a series of temples that contained a series of artifacts that were too valuable to ignore. With each temple being c. 1.25 miles from each other, it was believed that he could steal items from all three temples at once. Unfortunately he found that the artifacts contained the spirits of Shiva, Shakti, and Krishna. This is the first recorded incidence, since 10,800 BC, when a human being has contained the essences of more than one deity. As such, the Indian government in Mumbai has considered since 2001 a threat to national security. This hasn't stopped Triathalon from creeating a religious following with over 53 million people, with 10,200 free educational institutions, charitable organizations and service projects under his name in 133 countries. He is also seen as a threat by Kali and The Serpent Society. What is most disturbing is his recent overtures to Magneto and the Inhumans....

G.Bone- Just to be careful, Rebel (a.k.a. Connor O'Reilly) is more of a species-ist extremist, similar to Ed Norton's character in American History X. The fact that he is willing to sell armor weapons to anyone, makes him more like Nichaolas Cage's character in Gods of War. IN both cases, he isn't terribly heroric....

Moloch (a.k.a. "Sayf ad-Din Abu Bakr al-Malik al-Adil" a.k.a. "Al-Adil")- Canaanite god of child sacrifices, was a bloodthirsty deity, even by Hyborean standards. He has arrived in the present with a mission to tranform the world into his slaughterhouse. In 1212 AD he took on the form of a Dominican friar, who would lure children into the Children's Crusade, only to have the children sold into slavery. It wasn't until 1667, after meeting an aspiring author named John Milton, was his rationale explained. Before being exiled to the underworld, Moloch was one of the chief military commanders of the gods. Unfortunately while watching other "warrior gods" win favor and praise (e.g. Thor, Kali, Heracles, and Gilgamesh), he felt betrayed. As such, rather than being bribed, reasoned, or bargained with, he is one who would "set the forest on fire", just to watch it burn. In 1888, Moloch was In 1914 Elizabeth Dilling of Chicago, Illinois invoked the deity Moloch in an effort to destroy the Jewish people in an anti-Semitic rage. Starting in 1976, he served as a Tamil Tigers (LTTE) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has come in the form of a Hezbollah recruiter in Amman, Jordan since 1980, where he has lured children to act as suicide bombers. In 1981, he served as commander in the 1981-1988 Iran-Iraq War. He plans to orchestrate the deaths of enough children, in an effort to destroy the destiny of humanity....

Wolfsbane

Wolfsbane has a long and torrid history. She has been linked with Moira MacTaggart due to their shared Scottish background. She has been courted by various government agencies in the UK to join their groups.

Rahne Sinclair does have the ability to morph into a "werewolf" shape. She does have superhuman strength. She does have a different healing system that can be only accessed while she is in "wolf" form. Any major injuries caused to the senses (i.e. deafness) does have some trace element in human form.

As of late Rahne Sinclair is recorded as following into her adopted mother's footsteps. She does specialize in efforts countering the Legacy Virus as well as inter-spacial "shocks" that create super hero powers. She has been employed by Nick Fury in his continued search for the Fantastic Four.

Virginia Dare (a.k.a. Goblin Queen)- In 1587, Virginia Dare, daughter of Ananias Dare, was born in Roanoke, North Carolina. She is considered a major threat to the ATL. In 1999 it was uncovered in reseach by Dr. Stephen Strange, that prior to the disappearence of the colony, the Roanoke coloy was visited by a demon by the name of Isaac Christians (a.k.a. Zarathos) . He disappeared only after warning, "the price you will bear will be greater than anything you have experienced...". In 2000, according to www.Occultresearch.com, Derek Barnes concluded that Virginia Dare destroyed the "Lost Colony of Roanoke" in 1590 out of a fit of temper. From 1937 through 1941, there were reports of sightings of Virginia Dare in Georgia and the Carolinas. Reports of her vast power were even placed in the Saturday Evening Post by Boyden Sparks. In 1975, rumors of her presence in New York City, New York, were reported in the local tabloids. Stories had her controlling a small army of minion of aborted fetuses who subsequently called her "Mother", earning her the title of "Goblin Queen". In 1983, the populace of the town of Santa Mira, California disappeared after a mysterious woman named "Virginia Dare" checked into the Koontz Bed and Breakfast. In 2006, Virginia Dare is being blamed for the apparent disappearence of the populace of Rivergrove, Oregon. It is unknown whether the threat she poses is supernatural, mutant, both, or some unknown quantity. Any group facing her will certainly be challenged....

Baal (a.k.a. Ba`al Pe’or a.k.a. Simon Baccarin)- Baal, much like the deity Moloch is determined to see the collapse of human civilization in an effort to reassert the former power-role of the gods. Much like Loki, he believes in indulging in the pleasures of the flesh as a virtue. As such, since 1976, Baal has taken the form of Simon Baccarin, a Colombian drug-lord in Medellin, Colombia. In 1995, with the help of organized crime figures in Bryn-y-Baal, Wales, he has spread his operations into Europe. Starting in 2002, he taunted the U.S. military and DEA officials into any attempt of attack. With over $1.5 billion in assets and funds, he was able to prevent any form of extradiction. In 2003, he was able to establish himself in Japan, despite Yakuza opposition, using Kaori Mizuhashi, as a middleman. In 2005, he launched an attack on SHIELD, by launching a surprise attack near Mt. Ararat, Turkey. While his presence has attracted the wrath of the Punisher, Kingpin, and Daredevil, few people, if any, realize that he is actually a deity on par with Thor or Hercules....

Bluebird (a.k.a. "Agent 19" a.k.a. "Sally Avril"- Sally Avril went to the same high school as Peter Parker in New York City, New York. She was an accomplished gymnast and cheerleader who also wanted to be a photographer and was also interested in being a superhero as well. While Peter Parker made his debut as Spiderman, she made her debut as Bluebird less than three months later. With the help of boyfriend Eugene "Flash" Thompson and best friend Seymour O'Reilly, she would help battle criminals such as the Scarlet Spider and Electro during her spare time. During junior year of high school, she confronted Peter Parker and revealed her knowledge that he was Spiderman and his connections to SHIELD. She was subsequently recruited by Nick Fury, who saw promise in the detective skills and training of the gymnast. But her life took a jarring turnwith her appointment to SHIELD. While in the Savage Land region in Antarctica, she was brutally raped and was catatonic for approximately 2 years. She has had to deal with an addiction to heroin that came about while in Madripoor. To make matters worse, she has had a turbulent "on-again, off-again" relationship with Avenegers "bad-boy" Hawkeye, which even led to him ditching her at the wedding altar on more than one occasion. She was recently accused of an assassination attempt on Premier K'ang Bei Wang in Shanghai, which placed her in a Chinese prison cell with Shang Chi a.k.a. "the Mandarin". The subsequent escape with the known criminal lord, has made her a political liability in many cases. While Peter Parker works at The Daily Bugle, Avril has taken up photo editorial duties at The Daily Globe while she tries to recuperate. She is currently on call to SHIELD, and has ties to STRIKE....

Commander John Jameson, NASA (a.k.a. "World-Breaker)- son of The Daily Bugle newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson, Commander John Jameson was a proud Mission Commander of the Space Shuttle Orion. His crew consisted of himself, Dr. Ashley Kafka, Flight Commander Vance "Astro"Astrovik, and Lt. Richard Rider. On a routine "milk-run" mission to launch a Hubble-class space telescope, Jameson and his crew were suddenly and brazenly attacked by a group of Enslavers, loyal to Mrrungo-Mu, who had been told about humanity by Norin Radd a.k.a. Death's Head. On Earth, the events are known only as the Orion Disaster (6/15/1994), with details kept relatively quiet. President Bill Clinton and former President George H.W. Bush spoke at the memorial service at Cape Canaveral, Florida....

Eventually the crew was traded to the Shi'ar Empire, informing 2 intergalactic empires to the possibility of Earth as an abundant possible source for slaves. Members of the Orion crew were separated from each other to be used as scientific specimens between the Shi'ar Empire and the Empire of Mrrungo-Mu. A random attack by Kree Militia Forces, led Commander Jameson to lead a rebellion. Joined by a Brood Hive-Queen dubbed "No-Name", a Sakaarian Shadow Priest named Hiroim, a Kronan stone-warrior named Korg, an insectoid An-Sara warrior named Miek, and a Sakaarian female warrior named Caiera, Jameson seized control of a slave-ship Corsair. In the process of escaping, Jameson detonated a thermonuclear device, destroying the K'ythri moon, earning him the moniker of "Worldbreaker". Commander Jameson has vowed to find, rescue, and return the members of the Orion crew home. He also knows that he must inform Earth about the impending threat of the Shi'ar Eampire and the Enslavers....
