Historians still debate if the capture of over 200,000 soldiers could have been avoided and if it nearly ended Winston Churchill's career. Regardless, the "British Bullog" would remain PM until the Suez Crisis.

ITALY

After the Cassibile Armistice, the Kingdom of Italy quickly organized to contain the invading Axis forces. Despite the victory, the Gran Sasso raid made things more difficult for the Kingdom. Bolzano, Lubiana, Northern Dalmazia and Trieste wouldn't be liberated until 1945. Many Italian soldiers in the Eastern Front, some there even since the beginning of Barbarossa (15th May 1941), had to either face Stalin or Hitler.

Many soldiers choose the first. They knew that, unlike the Germans, most of them hadn't treated the people of the USSR as lamb to slaugher. Most of these soldier would return home in the early 1950s after being released, other would join either WAllies or Comintern divisions. Few remained.

FSINEWS OF PEACE by Winston Churchill

"From Stettin in the Baltic to Greece, iron jaws have descended across the Continent. Behind those ravenous mouths lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Europe. Athens, Warsaw, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Oslo, Bucharest and Sofia; all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere, and all are subject, in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and in some cases increasing measure of control from Moscow."

Aftermath : Interesting Countries Part 1
NATIONAL REPUBLIC OF CHINA

1947, ONE YEAR AFTER THE END OF THE CIVIL WAR

Senza nome (1).png

With the defeat of the Communist forces in 1947, what was once the territory of the Qing Dinasty was still divided, but at least more stable. Chiang Kai Shek after the end of the conflict had
for better or for worse, most of China. It had to deal with corruption and nepotism, but those took second place compared to the compromises the Generalissmo had to make with the Big
Three. Stalin wanted Manchuria for himself and Inner Mongolia for the Mongols, while the English wanted a buffer between the newborn Republic of India and Hong Kong to still be theirs.
The relations with the future soon-to-be non-Salazarist Portugal were not good, but not bad either. The defeat in Xinjiang was still on Chiang's mind, with the region later to join the Warsaw Pact. Although , on his deathbed, Chiang sarcastically retorted :

At least I am not stranded on an damn island.

And so the White sun rose over China, after three decades of conflict.

MEANWHILE, IN EUROPE...

LEGAD.png

Norway, Poland and Greece were the ones who got the short end of the stick in the aftermath of WW2. The first two being liberated, so to speak, by the Red Army. Greece, unlike China, was divided in two, the first was another Soviet satellite and the second a bunch of islands in exile with the capital in Nicosia. Albania, like Korea, found itself in the US camp but many of the new administration were collaborators of both Italy and Nazis, or were still members of the defunct puppet Albanian Fascist Party, facing a communist insurgency led by Enver Hoxa, but the latter's days were numbered. Ireland meanwhile was finally reunited, with the British having to mantain their end of the bargain despite to many pro-Axis Irishmen, this at only the cost of a
few hundred men. Italy and Czechoslovakia also enlarged themselves despite the war, and both were in the same team now; the part of Hungary under WAllies control ended up in their territory and much of the Hungarian ethnicity received much of the same treatment as the Germans : flee or die. Yugoslavia was perhaps the biggest looser, the territory divided in two rival kingdoms and some of it taken by the Italians, with the Lubiana Emergency creating thousands of West Slovenian refugees.

THE NEAR EAST

Senza nome (1).jpg

Aftermath : Interesting Countries Part 2
THE NEAR EAST PART 2

near east after WW2.png

With the fall of France and the creation of an Axis-aligned Iraq, the results were sort of predictable. Syria, Iraq and Lebannon were incorporated into the mandate of Hashemite Transjordan, an unpopular move by the people but it seems it is working despite all odds, if someone doesn't take into account the popularity of Baathists, Social Nationalists, Communists and the neighbors : Israel to the West,Iran to the East, the fundamentalist kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the South and to the North the Communist states of Turkey and Kurdistan, the latter which is particulary angry at the total expulsion of Kurds from the territory of the Kingdom of Syria. Regarding other countries, the region is relatively tame except for the People's Republic of Yemen and the tensions mostly against Oman and the Saudi family and the tensions between Palestian refugees in the Kingdom of Syria.

EAST ASIA

East Asia After WW2.jpg

If it wasn't for India, Vietnam and Chiang's China East Asia would be totally an "America" continent. The adversaries of the West can count only on India, thanks to Pakistan. The most important member of the Pacific Asian Caribbean American Treaty Organization (PACATO) in the region is certainly the Thai Empire, who managed to "reclaim" its "lost lands" from Vichy Indochina and avoiding getting involved in WW2, although the popularity of Phibun's regime is faltering and the Marshall isn't popular as it used to be. Indonesia meanwhile seems to be to sympathetic to their local Communists and Uncle Sam might "help" the multi-ethnic country get back in the "right track". Korea meanwhile is stable even though some members of the government were previously collaborators of the Japanese.

THE ASSASSINATION OF PALMIRO TOGLIATTI

attentato_togliatti_unita (1).jpg

The 14th of July at 11:30 Palmiro Togliatti was assassinated with five shots hitting the head , killing the leader almost instantly, if not immediatly. Besides him, Leonilde Lotti was also hit with a shot to the shoulder. The culprit was never found, which made many Italian communists blame the government for supposed anti-Communist sentiment, disregarding the fact De Gasperi was doing everything he could have done to found the murderer, the more militants elements of the ICP didn't find rest until the end of the year, resulting in the most violents months of the Italian Republic ever had.

RETALIATION : THE MONTHS OF LEAD

Senza nome (2).jpg

Alcide de Gasperi, Luigi Einaudi, Ivanoe Bonomi, Nenni and many others would die at the hands of rogue elements of the ICP in the months following Togliatti's murder.
The newborn Republic faced its greatest crisis in its most crucial moment. Likewise, many elements of the Italian Social Movement were killed by Communists, like Borghese, Rauti, Marsianich,Michelini and even the famous brutal general Graziani; although later it became a blessing in disguise twenty laters years on, considering the most radical and confrontational elements of the party were eliminated not by internal squabbles but bullets. Giorgio Almirante would remain secretary of the party until 1979...

How exactly were the Chinese Communists defeated? Better question: how did Chiang solve the problem of colossal amounts of corruption and cliqueism within the KMT military?

@Messalian so far, it is mostly a graphics TL. I unfortunatly don't have enough info (so far) about the KMT and their controlled territories. If you have any suggestion you are more than welcome to do so.
