So If America Doesn't Expand West...

What would the country look like, in terms of economics, military and demographics?

-Would we see a lot more concentration on the East Coast, or would people generally move inland?

-What industries and economic sectors would America do better in/worse in than OTL?

-Since she's concentrated along a coast, would we see a larger navy?

-Would America be easier to invade?

-Would immigration be as large as it was OTL?

All of it really depends on where the border is, who owns the other part, and if they are friend or foe?

Any ideas?

A PoD that has America still do the Loiusiana purchase is perhaps the most realistic because the area was being colonised by american settlers and most of the trade from the interior passes through New Orleans. You may be abole to contain american expantionism in this empty space particually if a powerful or allied nation held the lands further west. If you had an Eastern America then she is likely to be more Industrialy based in my opinion. Much of the farmlands of Central North America would be near the borders.

Oceanic emphasis is likely, particually if a strong emmigration movement still occurs. The US government ITTL might subsidise US merchant vessels as the british one did.
