So I've just read the book Shattered Nation by Jeffery Brooks and found it entertaining. The POD was varied, not just one event changed but a few before the 'real' POD (which was based on an actual butterfly). The military thinking was well thought out and I thought Grant's feint into Alabama was absolutely genius. However one criticism is that he proposes that the Democrats actually accepted funds by the CSA to campaign in 1864. But thats a small one comparatively.
