So this time in my series of alterated/wank Italy, i have an alternative Fascist Italy in alternative WWII.
Essentially, the POD was a direct intervention of Italy in Spanish Civil War after the shooting of Franco, leading to Fascist-Nationalist victory and to instauration of a new Spanish monarchy with a Fascist government under the Savoia-Aosta dynasty; Italy as reward gained all the Spanish African territories.
The victory in Spain convinced Mussolini to create his alliance system in Mediterranean and Balkans, deciding to not signed the Iron Pact ( and so no racial laws) but only the Anti-Comintern Pact. Italy managed to attract into its orbit Portugal and Hungary, and in a first moment also Bulgaria.
In the start of WWII, Italy made its own war with its allies invading Iugoslavia in 1939 and in 1940 Greece, with the silent approval of both Allies and Germany. After the fall of France, Syria and Lebanon seeked protection from Italy, while in Palestine many Hebrews started to settle in the area thanks to Italian funds. Towards the end of 1940 also Romania, which refused to cede Transilvania to Hungary, was invaded and divided but this damaged the Italo-German relations, because Hitler wanted that nation as a base for invasion of USSR.
In 1941, while Germany started to invaded USSR, Turkey attacked Syria, but because Bulgaria refused to enter into the war, Italy occupied both countries and consolidate its holdings in Middle East. In 1942 Egypt ( where also the Suez Canal was occupied), Palestine, Transjordan and Iraq forced the British to retire, starting in the principle good relations with Italy: and also Sudan revolted to the British.
However, between 1943 and 1944 all these countries, with also Syria and Lebanon, attacked the Hebrew settlements in Palestine, forcing Italy to intervene. Syria, Lebanon, Palestine ( which assumed the name of Israel from that point), Egypt were directly annexed; Transjordan and Iraq became puppets. In 1945, the Empire of Italy was proclaimed, Mussolini assumed the title of "Duce Console", the two chambers of Parliament merged in a single, massive "Imperial Senate". When the Soviets approached Berlin, in april of that year the Empire and its allies declared war on the Third Reich, occuping Austria. However, the great winner of WWII was Stalin, which occupied almost all of Germany, Poland, Finland ( directly annexed into the Socialist Union), Norway and Denmark, in Far Asia Manchuria and all of Korea, and also parts of Belgium and Netherlands, relinquished to the Allies in exchange for their (relative little) occupied part of Germany.
In the negotiation between the allies, Italy for the recognition of its conquests ceded all of AOL ("A necessary sacrifice", said Ciano to Mussolini) and all of previously Spanish lands in Africa to France and Britain; in exchange he obtained control over Cyprus (too far for Britain to protect anymore) while the Maltese question remained unsettled. France was more advantaged from the Italian question,and obtained also the northern part of Sudan ( which was called Nubia) when French and British forces invaded the region to restore control: so, the African French colonies now extended from Atlantic to the Red Sea.
The Italian colonists in AOI were resettled in Middle East, specially in Israel, where the Hebrews, many adopting the Fascist way, became one of the most loyalists people of all the Empire, while the Islamic populations badly accepted the "Christian-Jewish" servage, many became partisans or terrorists.
Austria merged to Hungary, forming a renewed Austro-Hungarian Empire under the Hapsburg dynasty, which served as a buffer state for Italy against USSR and its puppets..
