DBWI motherland

has anyone read the book "motherland"? it takes place in a world where the european allies won the second world war. however the unique thing is that there is a cold war with russia, which is rather unique, considering that most books say that britain would have been a more likely candidate.

It was okay- Story of a Policeman in Allied Occupied Berlin investigating the murders of the British-Zone Communists, rather basic investigation story with Counter-Fact and sprawling mystery. I thought Britain going Socialist under Cripps and his successor Thorpe following a WAllied Victory was an odd choice on the author, but you know.

I liked the idea of Britain become irrelevant in the wider world though, reminded me greatly of Kruger's The Last Crusade.

In all fairness, the depiction of Russians in Motherland was alright. I liked Secretary Vlasov and how his reactionary, radical views and stern personality correlated with the aging, calm and more liberal Minister Konovalov.

I thought the Plot revolving around Soviet Agents embedded in the British Secret Service far-fetched; a cabal of Communists would surely find the beating heart of the British Empire far harder to infiltrate if the English showed even half as much Intelligence as they did during Churchill's War!
