DBWI: "Age of Aquarius" is a hit song for The Fifth Dimension

Early in 1969, the members of the singing group The Fifth Dimension were killed in a plane crash near St. Louis. At the time of their death, they were working on the recording of the song "Age of Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" from the Broadway musical Hair. At about the same time, that song was also recorded by The Supremes and Engelbert Humperdinck. The master tape of The Fifth Dimension's version was incorporated with the Supremes' recording.

The rest is history. The Supremes rendition of the song was the biggest selling sing and number 1 single of 1969.

I was just wondering. Had The Fifth Dimension lived and finished recording the song, would they have had the same success with it? And would The Supremes have still stayed together until 1974 or would they have broken up earlier?
