In this timeline, the ROC won the Chinese Civil War, and then annexed back East Turkestan. This version of the ROC controls all of Mainland China (excluding Macau that is to be returned in 1980 and HK that is to be returned in 1997), Taiwan, and the Diaoyu Islands except for Western and Central Tibet, as those lands are ruled by Tibet, a Chinese puppet state.

These are the tanks in service with the ROC Armed Forces as of 1978:
1) M4 Sherman 76.2mm (Reserve Units)
2) M41 Walker Bulldog (Reserve Units)
3) M47 Patton (Designated as Type 42 Tank)
4) M48A3 Patton (License-produced in China from 1961 to 1972 and designated as Type 50 Tank, Type 50 tank has a variant armed with the L7 105mm fitted into an M60 turret that is designated as the Type 55 Tank)
5) Type 60 Tank

Currently, I am trying to decide between two tanks for the Type 60 tank. A tank that resembles an M60A1 armed with an L11A5 gun, and a Cheiftain tank with improved frontal hull armor and a Continental V12 diesel engine.

This are the specs for the first tank:

Main Battle Tank: Type 60 Main Battle Tank
The Type 60 Main Battle Tank is an indigenously designed Chinese main battle tank that was adopted by the R.O.C. Armed Forces in early 1971. Here are the specifications for the Type 60 Main Battle Tank:
  • Main armament: L11A5 120mm rifled gun
  • Secondary armaments: .50 caliber M85 machine gun and 7.92 mm M240 machine gun
  • Engine: Continental AVDS-1790-2 V12 air-cooled diesel engine, 750 hp
  • Transmission: Allison CD-850-6/CD-850-6A cross-drive transmission
  • Suspension: Torsion bar
  • Speed: 30 mph (48 km/h) on road, 12 mph (19 km/h) off-road
  • Range: 300 miles (480 km)
  • Crew: 4 (commander, gunner, loader, driver)
  • Weight: 53.68 tons (48.7 tonnes)
  • Length: 34.45 feet (10.5 meters)
  • Width: 11 feet 11.7 inches (3.65 meters)
  • Height: 10 feet 2.4 inches (3.11 meters)
The Type 60 featured several important improvements over the preceding Type 50 (license-produced M48A3), including a laser rangefinder, a stabilized gun, an improved fire control system, and a ballistic computer.
Although supposedly indigenously designed, the Type 60 Main Battle Tank was more or less an M60A1 armed with an L11A5 120mm rifled gun. This was because the R.O.C. Ministry of National Defense had prioritized the R.O.C. Navy's and R.O.C. Air Force's important projects over other projects. However, the Soviet T-64's appearance at the Sino-Soviet border meant a solution was needed to counter and effectively combat the T-64. Therefore, the solution was to produce a tank that resembled an M60A1 tank that was equipped with a powerful L11A5 120mm rifled gun.

These are the specs for the second tank:

The Chieftain tank Mk 3 under the designation of the Type 60 Tank, was a British main battle tank modified for Chinese service. Its main differences from its British counterpart were the inclusion of additional frontal armor for the lower hull and the use of a Continetal Diesel V12 engine as the powerplant. Here are its specifications:

Weight: 55 long tons
Length: 35 feet, 4 inches
Width: 12 feet
Height: 9 feet, 6 inches
Crew: 4 (Commanderz gunner, loader, driver
Main Armament: 120mm L11A5 rifled gun
Secondary Armament: 1 M2 Browning anti-aircraft machine gun, 1 MG3 chambered in 7.92x57mm coaxial machins gun
Engine: Continental AVDS-1790-2 V12 air-cooled diesel engine, 750 hp
Suspension: Horstmann suspension
Operational range: 300 miles
Top speed: 30 mph

The Type 60 Main Battle Tank was a modified Chieftain Tank Mk 3 in Chinese Service. In 1965, the Soviet T-64's appearance at the Sino-Soviet border meant a solution was needed to counter and effectively combat the T-64. Therefore, the solution was to adopt a modifidd variant of the Cheftain tank Mk 3.
