AHC: With a 20th-century POD, Niger is a rich country

It has so little resources in comparison to even other countries in west Africa the idea that it could become a first world power is complete ASB,
You could make it richer, more stable , more democratic with pods

But without the liberal use of nukes it can't be the richest country in Africa let alone the world

Sadly, its size and geographic isolation make this very difficult.

Probably the best way to make the region better off would be to partition French West Africa among a smaller number of independent states, so what is OTL Niger would be connected to a wealther OTL country with a coastline or more resources (like Ghana or Nigeria).

The rest of the world is destroyed in a nuclear war but the countries forget to hit Niger.

When do you want it to be considered rich? Because by the 22nd century, with the right policies, combined with the population growth of the early 21st century, Niger could become a noteworthy country in the region. The problem with Niger is that it's potential is determined by the actions of neighbouring countries thanks to its landlocked and isolated nature.

Niger has plenty of oil, coal, natural gas, as well as uranium. Since most of the country is in the Sahara desert, Niger is also well-suited for future solar power projects. This means that Niger could become an energy superpower, especially if the political climate of the world favours moving away from fossil fuels as soon as possible. If the anti-nuclear movement was nerfed for one reason or another, then Niger could see some benefit. Then give Niger more stability, along with its neighbours--probably Algeria or Libya are your best options, since it's best to ignore Mali's sub-Saharan African neighbours since we want stable neighbours for these programs. With some well-placed investment, Niger can export its power to North Africa and through infrastructure, to Europe.

Sadly, I think all this would mean is Niger is a rich country. Maybe the richest in West Africa, and one of the richest on the continent. But no way the richest.

POD could be anything. But to cultivate links with the rest of the world, maybe France builds a railroad through the Sahara for a reason or another, and part of it passes through Niger.
