AHC: turn the Vietnam War into a total hell for the Nixon Administration

We are all familiar with the "Vietnamization" policy of the Nixon Administration at that time and everything that happened at the time, including the major anti-war protests. The challenge is to turn the hell that was the war in Vietnam into something much worse.

What sort of things could be changed by the time of the Nixon admin? Were the Vietnamese Communists not already fighting at pretty much full capacity? And presumably, Soviet and Chinese reticence about direct military involvement was an established fact.

Since you specifically reference Vietnamization, maybe have that policy fail, so more of the bloodshed is still being endured by American troops? Not sure that gets you to Hell On Earth, or at least no moreso than it was before Vietnamization kicked in, but it might make the war even more unpopular, put some pressure on Nixon to settle earlier.
