The PM of Isreal (Meir I think) nukes the Arab nations and turns Israel into a far right dictatorship.

A socialist grandma from Minnesota who was the labor party PM?

I enjoy what I read of that thread, but sometimes I think think the author needs to cut down on his meds.:D

Although I admit I thought his Pol Pot Year Zero Red China was brilliantly evil!

Only after 1944.
It was a puppet state even by the standards of puppet states. A previous leader who had tried to do things his own way was executed.

Even if we count puppets (which we shouldn't IMO), the power was shared with her husband, with he having the greater share.

Nitpick: Golda Meir was from Wisconsin (though originally from Kiev). The school she attended in Milwaukee has since been renamed after her.

Cut down his meds? What, do you think the Icarusverse is insufficiently chaotic?

Anyway, how bad would things have to get for one of the world's female monarchs to take over her country?

Imelda Marcos had a shot if her husband dies before he is ousted. She was popular enough in her area to be elected to the Philippine House after she was pardoned.

And largely hated everywhere else (especially in Manila). Unless she had the backing of the security forces (who OTL initiated the overthrow of her much more popular husband, and she didn't have that popularity among the ranks), her tenure lasting longer than a year would be near ASB. The question would be who overthrew her first - softliners in the Party like Ople or Virata, the people, or the generals?

Lyudmila Zhivkova was far too incompetent to be even a totalitarian dictator, I think. But if she did by some ASB become one, Bulgaria would make North Korea seem downright normal in the quirkiness of dictatorships ratings. EDIT: I should totally write an ASB timeline about this.

You know what would be interesting?

If Milunka Savić had joined the Yugoslav partisans in WW2 and eventually took on Tito's role in post-war Yugoslavia

That sounds pretty good, actually.

And this sounds like a horrible turn of events for Bulgarians.

Slobodan Milosevic's wife, Mira, also dabbled in her own massively corrupt new age version of hardline communism. Fortunately, she was just as unlikely to get any kind of real power in Yugoslavia as Zhivkova in Bulgaria.

As I said, I don't think Zhivkova would be more, or less, killy than her dad, just more quirky about it. If you want a Stalinist dictator that the Soviets would have installed after the occupation, and is female, look to Tsola Dragoycheva. Again, ASB.
