Very interesting. I've always wondered about Edward living longer - it seemed like a pretty good turning point in English history.
I'm not sure I agree with the assertion here that his living longer will be a good result for english catholicism. He grew up under the influence/teachings of a...
So, the problem with solar as I understand it is that one photon produces one electron when impacting on a cell. If the rate of electron production per photon impact can be increased how much difference would this make to the cost effectiveness of solar electricity generation??
I'm referring...
SionEwig - Thanks. I actually find it a little difficult to tell the intent of posts. One of the reasons I don't post much.
It was not my intention to denigrate anyone elses reaction to the book, simply to present an alternative view point. Also to see if I had missed the point or something...
SionEwig - I was wondering how long it would take for someone to pull that old chestnut out. Dead wrong, as it happens. Not that it is any of your business.
From the way it was described earlier in the thread I was expecting something a lot worse. Silly me, I will know better in future.
Amerigo - Exactly! It is just a story so IMHO people should be more concerned with how good a read it is/how well constructed it is etc and not let themselves get overly discomfitted by seemingly unpalatable actions on behalf of the characters.
Having said that Ian's description above does not...
I don't find the Peter Rabbit bit disturbing either. It is quite practical/logical (given the objective conditions set in the novel) as you cannot explain the situation to a child of that age so the best idea is to distract them.
So, I'm still none the wiser as to what all the fuss is about.
I didn't find chapter 33 to be disturbing at all and am at a loss as to what all the fuss is about. Given the objective situation the choice is perfectly legitimate.
As to power armour - it hasn't really ever been written correctly in any of the novels I have read. I can see current body...
Very interesting thread. Have enjoyed reading it.
I'm with the mainstream here, the stagantion of the Islamic world cannot be attributed to any single cause just as the fall of any other empire did not have a single cause.
I wonder how much the rapidity of expansion in the early years may...
So the entire operation was meant to be a raid? Seems like a lot of effort to raid a manufacturing centre. Was he looking to re-equip part of his army with repeaters (would depend on which model was being produced there I suppose)?
If he makes it to Harrisburg and burns it to the ground does...
As a fan of all things evil, scifi/fantasy wise, I would be interested to hear everyones favourite villains. They can be either single characters or entire races/civilisations.
To start the ball rolling I have always been partial to the following -
Daleks/Cybermen/Sontarans - mainly...
In OTL Lee lost contact with his cavalry for 4-5 days prior to the battle (Jeb Stuart was off trying to repeat his ride around the union army from earlier in the war) leaving him essentially blind. What would be the effect of the cavalry remaining in close contact with Lee during this period...
