This would work excellently. Maybe you might want to theme it a little - like an animated map of a world war. Not anything to do with OTL WW2 or WW1, but maybe something, for example between a mega-Australia agianst teh Commie hordes.

There's often a certain conservatism in the setup of our AH worlds. Surviving British or Ottoman or Russian empires, or Chinese empires which have made fairly bloodless transitions to democracy, surviving Confederacies, Byzantine Empires...

Total modern warfare. Struggle between bloody and whacky ideologies. Massive border changes. The extension one of those whacky ideological theories by force over half of Europe. Not to mention the following collapse of colonial empire, China's Trail of Tears to industrial modernity, etc.

So,

Before and After
Show a "conventional" AH world of empires, colonies, etc.: and then show it after a series of political and military convulsions comparable to those which took place in the 20th century between the 'teens and the sixties. If the whole world is too much, a continent. PODs should be before 1900, preferably a good bit before, so the intial world must be fairly different from OTL 1914.

At the moment the three recent suggestions I like the most are "Wandering Religions", "A Nation Displaced" and Zuvarq's suggested modification of "Before and After":

Can I make a modification to Before and After?

Before and After: Show the world or a continent before and after a World War; or, show an animated map throughout the World War.

Allows for more opportunities, and an animated map of an alternate world war would be really cool. And it'd be optional.

Though the name might be changed to A War to Dwarf All Wars, or Effects of Conflict or something, because the current title seems like it just has to one before and one after.

That's not really a necessary change - animated maps aren't disqualified from the contest and I'd permit showing maps from during the war, provided maps showing the situation immediately prior and subsequent to the war are allowed.

That's a bit overly complicated, and a series of maps showing the course of the war is going to include a map showing the situation at the beginning of the war and a map showing the end of the war, so it would still meet the challenge requirements as they are.

Don't be ridiculous! You think just anyone can enter their artwork in this, the most prestigious of cartographical contests? Do you really think we'd let the numerous, stunted dregs that litter the world to partake in this battle of aesthetic delights!? PREPOSTEROUS! The Map of the Fortnight Map Contest is only open to entries from a most selective and elite group of society - those that have risen above the hoi polloi and the great unwashed to prove themselves as the crème de la crème!

I wish I could have entered this one, but I used up every non-French revolution I could think of in my TL, so it just wouldn't be proper and Map of Fortnight.
