Theodore Roosevelt III

Theodore Roosevelt III (1914- ) the grandson of Former President Theodore Roosevelt, and the son of General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. TR III followed the Roosevelt tradition to serve the nation in times of crisis, by joining the US Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor. TR III served as a pilot in the Pacific Front, returning state side at the wars end. TR III helped his father in his campaign as Governor of New York in 1948, which was cut tragically short when the elder Roosevelt died of a heart attack.

Following his father's death TR III moved to San Francisco working in a law firm. In 1952 he was elected to the US Congress where he served until 1965 when he was selected as Secretary of Defense under Nelson Rockefeller. Following his two terms in the Rockefeller administration, Roosevelt remained active in politics seeking nomination for the Presidency in his own right in 1976 and 1980. After failing to get the nominations, Roosevelt III retired from politics living quietly at his ranch in California.
