-**Dwight Eisenhower** (1890-1957) served as the Allied Supreme Commander in Europe during most of World War II with responsibility for planning the invasions of Spain, Italy and France. Although ultimatley successful, Eisenhower blamed himself for the devestating losses suffered at Normandy, resigned his post as Allied Supreme Commander in Europe. Eisenhower spent the rest of the war in Saudi Arabia as a military advisor. Following the war, Eisenhower retired from the Army to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Keeping mostly to himself in retirement, Eisenhower was writing his memoirs when he died of a heart attack in 1957, per his request, Eisenhower was buried amongst his soldiers in Arlington National Cemetary.

-The US Navy honored Eisenhower by naming a Barbel class submarine, after the retired General. The USS Eisenhower is currently assigned to Pearl Harbor Naval Base.
