Cuba

The Republic of Cuba was led by the dictator Fulgencio Batista from 1938 until his death in 1974, Cuba was then led by his long time Prime Minister Carlos Aguero. It wasn't until 1983 when Aguero was overthrown that Cuba finally become a liberal democracy. The Republic of Cuba is closely allied with the United States, with some Cuban nationalists believing their government to be little more than America's lapdog.

The capital city of Havana is known throughout the world as the city of neon lights, a place where gambling, prostitution and drug dens are legal. Unfortunatley Cuba is plagued by high crime rates, a see saw economy, a small middle class and occaisonal threats from its ill equipped, poorly paid, cash strapped military. In spite of this the island is a tourist trap for Americans and Europeans alike, making tourism, along with gambling the lifeblood of the Cuban economy.
