After the capitulation of [[Germany (Hitler's Mediterranean Strategy)|Germany]], it was occupied by [[United States of America (Hitler's Mediterranean Strategy)|US]] and [[Britain (Hitler's Mediterranean Strategy)|British]] troops. 1948, in the first free election after the [[World War II (Hitler's Mediterranean Strategy)|war]], the Austrians made Julius Raab (ÖVP) minister president. In 1949 Austria became a member state of the [[Federal Republic of Germany (Hitler's Mediterranean Strategy)|Federal Republic South Germany]].
