AH.com Enterprise : Terminology

An overview of various terminology appearing in AH.com Enterprise.

General terminology

Various fictional terms overheard during the course of the show's episodes.

Away team - Any exploration team deployed from a Twin Fleet MES. Though there are some typical, fairly stable rosters of away team members, the away team can theoretically include any crew member, based on the context.

Crosstime ship - Any shift-capable spaceship capable of utilising its Shift Drive for travel across the myriad timelines of the multiverse.

Fenk - The classic TOS era swearword, still in use. Exists “because every other sci-fi series has a blatant made-up alternative to f***".

Fleshbags / Organics - Slurs for humans or other organic beings, ocassionally used by AIs when annoyed or angry.

“Magic Meeting Room” - Cheeky nickname for the main briefing rooms of both Twin Fleet motherships. The “magic” part is meant to make fun of the notion that the crew members will come up with some intant, near-flawless solution to any given problem.

MES - Acronym for “Multiverse Exploration Ship”. This is any shift-capable ship who's main mission consists of exploring new, unknown alternate timelines, either in the services of Human Unity or The Hub. All official MES-s are crosstime ships.

Multiverse - An infinite number and expanse of alternate timelines, many of them forming their own alternate histories or even separate parallel universes. Exploring the multiverse and helping right the occassional wrong in a timeline is the main objective of all certified MES crews.

Shifthole - Artificially created wormhole-like phenomennon used for fast traversing of interstellar space or for travels between the various timelines of the multiverse. Shiftholes are created via Shift Drives.

Shiftspace - The standard physics-defying dimension/environment in which shiftholes exist. It allows for the creation of shiftholes, which can then be used to travel to other timelines or traverse interstellar space.

Shift vortex - A temporary physical phenomennon appearing on both ends of an active shifthole. It serves as the gateway for entering and leaving an active shifthole, in both possible directions. Shift vortexes usually collapse immediately after the shift drive is deactivated or a certain amount of time passes in their vicinity.

Tech tech, jargon jargon - A phrase often uttered by the Twin Fleet's chief engineers and occassionally their underlings as well. Usually used in the sense of “We have to tech tech, jargon jargon a solution…”, indicating that the chief engineers don't have the time or mood to explain complex technobabble to the rest of their crewmates. The words in the combination “tech tech, jargon jargon” are therefore intended as verbs.

Timeline - Any visited alternate universe that is a part of the wider multiverse.

TL - Acronym for “Timeline”.

Twin Fleet - the multiverse exploration mini-fleet consisting of the twin ships MES-1 Allohistory and MES-2 Uchronia. Also referred to as the “MES Twins”.
