This is an old revision of the document!

The election of 1972, in which the Republicans receive few coattails from Nixon's overwhelming presidential win, and the Democrats retain their majority. First election in which people aged 18 to 21 could vote after the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18 by the 26th Amendment.

The election of 1974: the Republicans suffer from the Watergate scandal, but unevenly. The Democrats contest all but one seat (OH-03)

The heavily gerrymandered election of 1992, Democrats retain their majority

Republicans blast through the gerrymandering in the Republican Revolution of 1994, taking the House for the first time since the 50s

The 1998 election, a low point for democracy in the US with terrible turnout and many unopposed elections. A defiance of the 'six-year itch' with the Democrats gaining a few seats, and no impact from the Lewinsky scandal as many had expected
