General Resources
Professor Zyzzyva's Canadian History 101 - A thread dedicated to clearing up misconceptions or innacuracies about Canadian history after the year 1867, courtesy of Zyzzyva.
National Archives and Library of Canada
Archives Canada - An electronic initiative designed to provide online access to holdings in over 800 archival institutions across the country.
Images Canada - Has about 100,000 pictures (from c. 1850 to c 1950). Check out the 'Image Trail' and 'Photo Essay' sections. Good source of 'old' pics.
Early Canadiana Online - Early Canadiana Online (ECO) is a digital library providing access to 2,293,459 pages in 15,034 volumes of Canada's printed heritage. It features works published from the time of the first European settlers up to the early 20th Century. Pages were scanned and then uploaded in gif format for anyone to view.
Canadian Cultural Gateway - Massive collection of links divided into 6 different categories. The 'Heritage' category has several relevant subcategories for people making timelines. The 'cultural history' and 'map' subcategories are rather cool.
ArchiviaNet - Part of Libraries and Archives Canada. Searchable database allows you access to over 40,000 pictures available online.
Finding Canadian, U.S. and international statistics - Large collection of statistical sources. Emphasis on Canadian stats but there's a fair number of U.S. and International sources as well.
Peel's Prairie Provinces - A resource dedicated to assisting scholars, students, and researchers of all types in their exploration of the history and culture of the Canadian Prairies. The site contains both an online bibliography of books, pamphlets, and other materials related to the development of the Prairies and a fully searchable collection of the full texts of many of these items.
Hudson's Bay Company Archives - The Hudson's Bay Company's records document the history of the HBC since its inception in 1670 following the history of the fur trade, North American exploration, the development of Canada as a country and the growth of HBC's Canadian retail empire.
Canadian Architectural Archives - Contains thousands of images that document nearly 50 years of Canadian architectural, cultural and social heritage.
Artefacts Canada - Containing millions of collection records and close to 580 000 images from hundreds of museums across the country, this resource is used by national and international heritage professionals.
Ottawa Rewind - A blog dedicated to stories about Ottawa and the surrounding area, winding back time.

Upper Canada (Ontario) Insane Asylum Inmates - Insane asylum database indexes to Toronto, Kingston, London, and Malden Insane asylums 1840's through 1900.
Upper Canada (Ontario) Land Leases and Miscellaneous Petitions - Database indexes Upper Canada Land lease Petitions 1780s through 1840s.
Upper Canada (Ontario) Criminal Database - Database indexes prison registers from Toronto, Whitby, Guelph, Woodstock, Chatham, Cobourg, Kitchener, Windsor, Peterborough, Lindsay, Owen Sound, Brockville, Belleville, Picton.
Library and Archives Canada - Home Children (1869-1930) - Between 1869 and the early 1930s, over 100,000 children were sent to Canada from Great Britain during the child emigration movement. Members of the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa are locating and indexing the names of these Home Children found in passenger lists in the custody of the Library and Archives Canada.
Canada's First Peoples - A detailed site focusing on the history, ethnography, economy and culture of the various First Peoples of Canada before European contact.
FirstVoices.com - Audio recordings of the First Peoples indigenous languages of Canada.
The Virtual Museum of Métis History and Culture - Pretty much everything you need to know about the Metis of Canada. Lots of pictures to view.
Metis-history.info - A detailed site with resources on Métis history and related topics.

Genealogy
CanadaGenWeb - Links to a wide variety of Canadian geneaology sites.
Our Roots - Some rather clever people from various Canadian universities went through hundreds (if not thousands) of old books and manuscripts relating to Canadian history and scanned them and then posted the whole book online. You can find everything from the Irish at Grosse Isle, the American Invasion of 1775, the Klondike Gold Rush, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada’s historic forts and trading posts, the Canadian Anti-Slavery Baptist Association, Aboriginal communities, political and local scandals, ship building in Moncton, and the Sackville telephone exchange, to name just a few. Rather good search engine on it.
Acadian & Cajun Genealogy and History Online - Approximately 750 links on everything about Acadian and Cajun history, ranging from archaeology, maps, pictures, postcards, recipes and–of course–geneology.
Politics
Constitutional Law of Canada - Resources pertaining to the Constitutional Law, as well as various aboriginal and international constitution info. The 'Best Sites' directory is quite extensive.
Economy and Transportation
Saskatchewan Country Elevator System Maps with Index Years: 1924-25, 1947-48, 1950-51, 1952-53, 1984 - Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Historic Maps of Saskatchewan. In the early 1900s transportation was via walking or horse and no roads, travel was difficult. When hauling grain to elevators with horse and wagon, approximately seven miles was considered to be a convenient distance. Many early Saskatchewan placenames which do not currently exist are on these maps.

Heroes Remember - Part of Veterans Affairs Canada website, there's a searchable database of about 2000 video/audio interviews with veterans from every war Canada participated in during the last 100 years.
Canadiansoldiers.com - The largest and most comprehensive single source, online or off, regarding the organization, vehicles, weapons, unifoms, traditions, and insignia of Canadian soldiers in the 20th Century. Over 6,700 images on 950+ pages dealing with history, equipment, literature and more are presented here for students of history, re-enactors, modellers, gamers, serious researchers and anyone interested in the Canadian Army between 1900 and 2000.
