Points of Divergence : James Cook
Famous British maritime explorer (1728-1779) of Oceania, the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Conducted extensive expeditions to eastern Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and even the outskirts of Antarctica. Mount Cook on NZ, the Cook Islands archipelago and many other places in Australia and Oceania are named after him. Died during his second stay on Hawaii, at a time when inner political tensions between the natives were high and violence was common.
Possible PoDs involving this historical personality
Cook not getting killed on the 14th of February 1779 by natives on Hawaii during his second stay there is a good PoD for a British exploration of the Pacific TL or History of Oceania TL.
Possible choices : Either avoid Cook's second stay on Hawaii or avert the infighting the natives were going through at the time, which helped fuel their animosity towards Cook once he returned and they didn't act as welcoming to him as during his first stay. Cook not dying on Hawaii is one of the three major PoDs of the An Alternate History of the Kingdom of Hawaii TL.
