N00b Definition Bill

Overview

N00b rights – rather, the curtailing of n00b rights – was a major issue approached by the 2007 Parliament on several occasions throughout its session. The N00b Definition Bill was the second such piece of legislation considered, in part as a direct response to the growing n00b rights movement, centered around the n00b-oriented Shadow Parliament (Fall 2007) and the newly established Noob Party (October/November 2007). While not as decidedly anti-n00b as the N00b Levy Bill, it still presented a possible blow to the n00b rights movement.

History

On November 24, 2007, Demosthenes, a founder of both the Noob Party and Shadow Parliament, presented a petition calling for the Parliament of AH.com to consider an expansion of n00b rights and a method of defeating the Robot Revolt. In response, Nekromans (YSP) called for all MPs to compose limericks mocking both the trolls, which were at the time conducting a mass invasion of the board, and the “n00b rights” movement. Nekromans' proposal was opposed by his fellow party member Historyfan 92, who was sympathetic to the n00b cause.

On November 29, Steffen (FFF) proposed a far-ranging authorization bill to enable the cabinet to take the necessary measures to deal with both the troll invasion and n00b unrest.

Shortly after, Historyfan 92 (YSP) proposed defining the word “n00b”, so that all members with fewer than 1000 posts could clearly understand whether or not he or she was a “n00b”. Despite his good intentions, though, the proposed definitions were not favorable to the n00b movement: MrP (KETWIWBP) suggested “I may not be able to define it, but I know a noob when I see it,“ whereas Michael, Minister of Defenstration, suggested that “a “noob” or “n00b” is an annoying prat of any join date.”

Text of Legislation

Proposal A: Recognizing the unease of members with fewer that 1000 posts as to whether or not he or she is a “n00b” or “noob”, the Parliament hereby declares it the individual right of every member to decide for him or herself whether or not the member questioning their status is or is not a “n00b”.

Proposal B: Recognizing the unease of members with fewer that 1000 posts as to whether or not he or she is a “n00b” or “noob”, the Parliament hereby defines a a “noob” or “n00b” as “an annoying prat of any join date.”

Results

This bill was not voted upon or enacted. While its passing could have at last set the definition of what a “n00b” was, it ultimately failed to gain traction and died during deliberations.
