Great Lakes

The Great Lakes are very big freshwater lakes between the USA and Canada. They are very useful for trade, but the only natural outlet to the ocean is the St. Lawrence River. There is a connection to the Mississippi River system at Chicago through the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal, a connection to the Hudson River and New York City via the Erie Canal, and a defunct canal to the Ohio River called the Wabash and Erie Canal. Many important cities are along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, including Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, Duluth, Detroit, Windsor, and Sault Ste. Marie.
