Cabinet Positions Bill
Overview
In preparation for President Leo Caesius' (AHPP) nominations for the first Cabinet, the Cabinet Positions Bill was Parliament's first attempt to define what those positions were. While the bill was not pass, it would act as the basis for the later Cabinet Duties Act and the actual cabinet positions President Caesius would later appoint nominees to.
History
Item 3 on President Leo Caesius' agenda at the opening of the 2006 AH.com Parliament was clarifying “the composition of the Cabinet, the election of its members, and whom it responds to”.
Douglas (AHPP) presented a motion to determine what cabinet positions the government requires, which was seconded by Midgard (E).
Othniel (YSP) proposed establishing the cabinet level positions of Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Internal Affairs, Attorney General, and Secretary of Defense as well as an Ambassador corps to assist the Secretary of State. This was seconded by Midgard (E).
Text of Legislation
ARTICLE I
Parliament shall establish the cabinet level positions of Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Internal Affairs, Attorney General, and Secretary of Defense.
ARTICLE II
Parliament shall also establish an Ambassador corps to be directed by the Secretary of State.
Result
This bill was never voted on or passed. Despite this, President Caesius would later use this and the proposed Cabinet Duties Act as the basis for creating the Cabinet posts of Secretary of State, Secretary of War, Secretary of the Treasury, Attorney General, Undersecretary of State Responsible for Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Information.
