Abkhazia is a historical region in modern day northwestern Georgia, at the foothills of the Caucasus mountains and the coast of the Black Sea. It is a highly disputed region, with Georgia regarding it as its natural territory, but the locals clutching to their unofficial semi-independent status that they gained in the early 1990s.

Not to be confused with this board member, though you may have been thinking of her, given that she based her nickname on the country.
