Challenge: Make a map showing the world, or a part of it, after the USA or another powerful state (Russia/USSR, Britain, Germany etc.) developed The Ultimate Weapon.

MotF 19: IN ABSENTIA - July 26th to August 8th, 2010
Challenge: Your map will be in a world where the Roman Empire either never existed or never grew to the prominence it did in our timeline, and so was overshadowed or replaced by another empire as the founder of European/Mediterranean civilisation.
Your challenge is to make a map showing said Roman Empire equivalent, a direct continuation of the empire in a different place (similar to the Byzantine empire of our timeline), the countries that result from its cultural and linguistic dominance, or a later country claiming succession from said empire (similar to the Holy Roman Empire of our timeline).

Challenge: Make a map related to one or several plebiscites or referenda, the purpose of which is to decide whether the region being polled will become part of one nation or another.

MotF 22: The Mouse That Roared - September 6th to September 19th, 2010
Challenge: Make a map depicting a world where one nation managed to ultimately succeed over a significantly superior foe in war. This enemy nation need not necessarily be superior in terms of land, population or technology, but it should - on paper - have a significant advantage over the lesser nation in warfare.

MotF 23: Welcome to the DMZ - September 20th to October 3rd, 2010
Challenge: Make a map showing a demilitarised zone (DMZ). The DMZ may exist between several nation states, or between several sides in a civil war, or wherever a DMZ might appear. The DMZ may be officially decided upon, or may be an unofficial DMZ come about through an unspoken understanding.

Challenge: Make a map of a country which has existed continuously (or almost continuously) for at least over a century, but whose government and organisation has changed so significantly over the intervening time that it is almost unrecognisable.

Challenge: Make a map depicting a depressing and dystopian world. It may be a sparse, post-apocalyptic wasteland, or a world of oppressive, impersonal authority.

Challenge: Make a map that depicts a world where Europe did not achieve global domination. The map may depict the globe, or a region of the world.

Challenge: Make a map set in a world where a major (or at least significant) trade route existed where none existed in our timeline, or where a relatively minor trade route from our timeline is made much more popular and important.

Challenge: Make a map showing an ATL terrorist network. Training camps, major attacks, sources of arms and money; anything related to a terrorist group's operations is generally okay.

Challenge: Make a map showing the spread of an ATL religion (this can be a religion that did not exist in OTL, a sect of an OTL religion that did not exist in OTL, or an OTL religion or sect that is vastly different to how it is in OTL) through any region you wish, or across the whole world.

MotF 30: The Ministry of Truth - January 29th to February 12th, 2011
Challenge: Make two maps: One must show the world as it is depicted to the people of a 1984-esque totalitarian state by their government, whilst the other must show how the world actually is. The map need not show the political situation of the world; it may show population figures, ethnic distribution, the nation's victories/defeats, economic prosperity, or anything at all that an authoritarian government might want to lie to their population about.

Challenge: Make a map concerning a harsh peace treaty that has been imposed on the losing side of a war.

Challenge: Make a map depicting all or part of a war from the point of view of someone from 10 years before the war starts. Said person has been informed that such a war will start in 10 years, but has otherwise only been provided with the vague location and nature of the war.

Challenge: Make a map showing a pilgrimage route and/or the holy sites of a certain religion in an alternate timeline.

Challenge: Make a map of an uneasy alliance between a generally free, democratic nation and a generally repressive, autocratic nation.

MotF 35: Natio Vetus, Gloria Nova - April 24th to May 7th, 2011
Challenge: Make a map showing a nation that is either attempting to revive or recreate a long dead empire (e.g. Mussolini's Italy trying to revive the Roman Empire) or that considers itself to be the cultural or spiritual successor of a long dead empire (e.g. Russia's claim as the “Third Rome”).
