Tonga lies in the central Pacific and is one of the more ancient populated archipelagos of Polynesia, even with its own megalithic-style historical monuments. It was formerly a British overseas territory. Today, the Kingdom of Tonga is by-and-large the only native monarchy left in the entirety of Oceania (at least as far as fully independant countries go).
