Benin is one of the smaller west African countries. It's often recognised as one of the more economically developed countries in that particular region, even if its not exactly a powerhouse.
Along with neighbouring Togo, Benin's territory is elongated on a northen-southern axis. The country borders Togo in the west, Burkina Faso in the northwest, Niger in the north and Nigeria in the east. Its southern border consists of its Atlantic coastline, geographically part of the Gulf of Guinea.
