After the Confederate States of America achieve permanent independence, one of the political parties that form in the latter half of the 19th century is the "Freedom Party". It fights for the abolition of slavery and full emancipation of blacks and various minorities. This is obviously an ironic jab at alternate history:Harry Turtledove's **Southern Victory (TL-191) series**, in which the "Freedom Party" was an allohistorical analogue of the Nazi party and, accordingly, perpetrated a holocaust on all black citizens of the Confederacy. The surname of the ATL US president from the early 20th century who features prominently in the TL - Walter Kirkwood - is a nod to to the subdivision of the same name that offtopic:Zach grew up in. ---- ==== Navigation ==== **timelines:Pax Napoleonica**
