====== Panama ======
 
A small country in Central America, bordering [[Colombia]] to the south and [[Costa Rica]] to the north.  Noted for a [[Panama Canal|transoceanic canal]] (whereas in just about every ATL, this is in [[Nicaragua]] instead). Has a hat named after it, but in the sort of irony that only OTL can produce, this is actually from [[Ecuador]].

Also the site of [[Scotland]]'s ill-fated Darien colonial enterprise, which is another fairly common subject of ATLs.

[[2008 US presidential election#John McCain]] was born here sometime in the sixteenth century. Evidently, unlike Ponce de Leon, he found the Fountain of Youth, though misplaced it sometime in the 50s.
